Well figured I'd update everyone who added to helping me make my decision. This past weekend I picked up a Ruger SP101 2.25" version with hammer at my local Cabelas. Next step will be getting out to the range to get some trigger time, and pick up a tuckable IWB holster and heavier 1 1/4" belt.

For decades, the 3" small frame snub has long been regarded as the best overall carry revolver. Older S&W J-frame snubs with 3" barrels are very desirable and older ones bring a nice premium........this is for a reason |

All I know now is that I am going to need some serious range time with my new SP101. I am not any sharp-shooter by any means, and don't claim to be a great shot. But this is my first revolver, have shot revolvers before, but going to need some trigger time getting used to the longer double-action trigger as well as the sights. Last night I loaded up a couple started loaded of .38 Special, so hopefully I can get out to the range this Saturday.

Re: Discontinuation of the .327 Magnum SP-101.
Must be the same marketing genius that puts an 8 round and a 7 round magazine with the SR1911.

I voted for the 2.25 SP101. Hammerless would be my choice.

Thanks for the responses. Hoping I don't regret going with the shorter version. Very eager to get it out to the range this weekend, and put some rounds through it.

The longer I live...the more I am into the longer barreled handguns...be it a 3" SP101...or whatever! There's nominal difference in weight, but the slightly extended sight radius makes it easier to line up a target faster...and be more accurate!
I have a 4" SP101 in .22lr...and it is, easily, the favorite of all my SP101's! I'm even to the point where I'm considering getting a 4" version...because it's lighter than a GP100...but more accurate than a 2.25" or 3" SP101! I just don't like the looks of that raised front nose/sight that's on it!!!

A few options that are available for the SP101...
Tritium front sights are available from Meprolight, Trijicon, and XS Sights (my favorite).
Various replacement grips are available from Badger Custom, Eagle, Hogue, Uncle Mikes, etc...in a variety of woods, colors, and shapes.
Holsters...way too many to mention them all...but I prefer Bianchi's Model 7 3-Slot OWB and DeSantis holsters! Galco makes some nice stuff too! Quality leather is worth the price!
Good luck...and hope you enjoy it for many years to come!

Just wanted to let you know that I'm in much of the same situation as you. So let us know how it goes at the range. I will be looking this weekend at a gun show.

If you are going to shoot 357s, then get the 3+ inch barrel. Otherwise it doesn't matter.

I like my Sp 101 in 357 magnum. I don't carry it though. Too heavy. Yiogo
