GP100 front sight

I have a GP100 in 327 Federal Magnum. I love the gun, but the front sight SSSSUUUUCCCCKKKKS (are you reading this Ruger?).

I know this has been discussed many times before, I just need a reminder (as does Ruger) what others have done to improve that horrible front sight.

For the record, my SP101 327 front sight SSSSUUUUCCCCKKKKS also, but that I painted blaze orange, and now it's not so bad. I really don't want to paint the GP100's front sight, I'm looking for a replacement.

Thanks.

Go poke around at Midway USA's website, they've got a bunch of different ones. I've got an XS Big Dot express sight setup on my 4" GP, and a Williams Fire Sight set on my 5". Here's a link to get you started.

Fire Sight is a good one..Ruger sells one online that comes with 6 pipes that is very cool and fits the GP-100 very well indeed..I have had one since I bought the guns..At the same time I got the wood insert grips..Made it look like a real gun Hated those Houge rubber grips..

I don't hate my front sight, but did put a little white nail polish on it for contrast. It helps. Ruger makes a red insert front sight though and I would consider trying that.

My eyes seem to like squares better than circles, even when dots are in a squared sight.

Amazon can solve that problem for $29.50 (includes shipping):

Amazon.com: HiViz Ruger GP100 Handgun Sight: Sports & Outdoors

Good thing the front sight is real easy to change as it does indeed suck. I like the green fiber optic myself, but it includes red as well.

Ditto on the Hi-Viz. That's what I put on my 6" GP100 and it made a big difference. I really like the XS dots too so you may want to give them a look. Cost is higher but you do get the tritium glow for low light/dark shooting, if that's of any interest to you. I like the XS crisp white circle in daylight and the tritium is just a bonus to me.

Came with 6 pipes. Simple installation. Much easier than the LCR.

North country gal will become famous soon enough
I also have the Williams Firesight set on my 4" GP and it's helped tremendously.

Another recommendation for Hi-Viz. I got mine from Amazon $35 or so. If your interested in installing a red dot sight and have a 6" barrel Weigand has a great mount that attaches with no new drilling.

I just got a HI VIS Shooting Systems front sight for my GP100. It was about $30 shipped from Midway. Wow! Easy to install. Looks good, now I can't wait to get it out and try it.

I like to shop Midway because they are a big NRA supporter.

Edit: Thanks for the tip on that one, it's a great sight for the price!

My Hi-Viz sights on my GP-141.

If Ruger insists on a front metal blade, then for crying out loud paint it red on the ramp!

Wish the front sight went all the way to the end of the barrel.
