Six series wood grips? Pic added

Were the service and security six ever sold with the smooth grips? I just bought a set of the smooth grips with beautiful graining. These are new old stock, never installed, with the Ruger medalion. I don't see these on the sixes offered on the auction sites. I also bought two checkered pairs. They came to $19 a pair including shipping.

I don't think so? I have a stainless S6 .357 mag made in 1982 and it came with the stock wood target grips (nice ones too!) and they were checkered.
Since I prefer mono grips because of arthritic hands, I just stored my wood originals away.

Screws were included. Should have bought more smooth, seller is now out.

I believe later in production of the Six series, the Security Six was offered with smooth "slim" grip panels. I also bought two pairs of these smooth grips from a seller on GunBroker, just waiting for a good Six to use them on They're neat, they remind me of Redhawk grips.

The one I got in 1976 came with checkered grips. I hated the feel of them, and as quick as I could, I replaced them with Pachmayrs.

If you have large hands, the factory "skinny" wood grip panels probably won't work for you, especially with .357's.

I like the look of them, but the Sixes I have that I shoot a lot wear either factory "Big" Target Grips, Herrett's, or some kind of rubber grip.

Smooth Target grips were also offered as an option and sold as aftermarket parts, these are harder to find and a nice set can cost about $50 on the auction sites.
