LCR Trigger Shape

When I took my new LCR to the range last week I had trouble with the shape of the trigger. It has enough "curve" that the tip of the trigger digs into my finger. After only about 30 rounds my finger was hurting, after a few more rounds it became unbearable. The tip of the trigger was digging into my finger and I don't think I have "fat fingers". If I move my grip a little higher to minimize muzzle rise the problem is even worse.
My first thought was to put a shoe on it but that thought was quickly discarded for obvious safety reasons, don't want to shoot myself holstering this weapon! I think I have seen an aftermarket trigger that is straighter but I can't find it now. This is not a range gun but I need to become proficient to be effective, I don't want to "spray and pray".
Any suggestions?

Where is your trigger fingers pad or joint in relation to the trigger surface when you’re pulling the trigger? If you haven’t tried decreasing the amount of finger pad surface applied to the trigger then do so, another option is to train yourself to not curl your trigger finger inward while pulling the trigger. In other words, keep the forefinger digit in the same plane while stroking the trigger. It sounds difficult but is possible, just concentrate on finger placement and draw stroke. As for trigger modification, take a trigger shoe and have it countered to decrease overall width, it provides you with additional surface but doesn’t extend outside of the trigger guard.

My wife and I have shot hundreds of rounds with our LCR and haven't had that problem.
Try THWNGRs sugestions and if you still have a problem check with a gunsmith for sugestions.
You say it's not a range gun so I guess it's for SD.
In this case be carefull with the modifications.

IMO your gun & others like it (LCP), have one use; up close, self defense. They are not range guns, there's no point in target shooting with them but you do need to validate repeatability.
They are point & shoot guns, that's all, nothing more.

Sorry to hear. I've had trigger guard rub with my LC9, but never had trigger finger Issues with the LCR.

Thanks for the responses. I thought I was already using the tip of my finger but I will check that next time. Keeping the finger in the same plane does sound counterintuitive but I will try that next time.
VietVet68 , it is necessary to become familiar and proficient, that is what I am doing. In just 30 rounds I went from not even putting one on the paper to a respectable slow fire group at 7 yards, now to work on my speed. Above all I don't want to hit bystanders.

Waterbaby, I've had a love/hate relationship with my LCR since the day I bought it 2 1/2 years ago, mostly for the same reason you stated - it really hurt my trigger finger to shoot it. I've posted about it several times on this forum. However, in recent months, I've dropped the hate part of the relationship.

I took off the CT grips that came on it and replaced them with the standard Hogue Tamer. That helped, but didn't solve the problem. I tried to trade it, but couldn't get a decent trade without taking a bath.

After many, many range sessions trying to love - or, at least, not hate - my LCR, I finally reconciled with it. What worked for me was a combination of getting my trigger finger deeper into the trigger guard - down to the first joint - coupled a firmer grip with both the strong and weak hands. I don't have large hands...size seven ring finger and wear a size medium golf glove (not when I'm shooting). In my case, using the tip of my finger (the fist pad) seemed to exacerbate the problem.

Now, I can say I actually enjoy shooting the LCR. I even recently installed the XS front sight on it.

Waterbaby... did you ever find a resolution to the problem.. I have the same issue, I have even gone to the thought of taking the trigger our and reducing the amount of curve, but I know how that would end up and can not afford the results of my doing it.
I think mine is going to have to go down the road.
I have spent quite a bit of time on the range with my LCR and with the pain, it notice I start to flinch after a few rounds knowing the pain is coming. (I know alot of people don't consider this a range gun, but with all my guns for SD I want to be highly proficent at a distance roughly equal to the length of my hallway.)
It seems if the trigger had less of an arc I would not have the problem..
Really would like to find a solution as I really like the gun.

I don't have any problem with the trigger on my LCR. It's got to be one of nicer, smoother triggers out there, and I enjoy working it. I've shot about a 150 rounds so far and dry-fire practice with snap caps all the time. No soreness or pinching at all.

I've owned two LCR's (first one was replaced by Ruger). I've fired well over 1000 rounds without problems with the trigger. But mine is the .22 version and maybe has a different trigger??? I've also fired the .38 and .357 versions and did not have problems with trigger. Both were quite painful to my arthritic thumb, however.

I've run some hundreds of rounds thru KLCR, about 25% 357s the rest 38s. When I wear it out I'll replace it. Tamer grip. Trigger position at the first joint ("power crease") as recommended by Ayoob and Grant Cunningham among others for double action. On the stroke, do not curl the trigger finger as this tends to pull the gun to the side (will curl some but minimize; will at first seem to be "escaping" but it won't). High hold, hard grip, no trigger pain. (Real recoil with 357s of course.) Cunningham recommends this for best snub accuracy but also no trigger pain for me at all (ring size only 8). YMMV of course. I'm getting pretty good with it out to about 15 yards.

I just got mine out and looked at it and again tried different positions of my hands and finger...no matter how I do it, the end of the trigger actually pushes into the flesh on my finger. I do have large hands and fingers, and really didn't notice the problem when I bought the gun, but after some range time it showed up. I did run across a recommendation of using some shrink tube on the trigger, but wonder how it would hold up and if it would slip or twist. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

LCR Trigger Shape

tiffensdad,
I have not found a good solution to the problem. Glad to know someone else has this problem and that it's not just in my head or my hold, sorry for you though. I have not taken this gun to the range lately, I know I need to be more proficient with it, but the pain is a real deterrent. I can't really afford to replace it (and it was an anniversary present from my wife, great woman that she is), perhaps I'll find a solution yet! BTW, I contacted Ruger about the problem and they told me to ship it back and they would see if it was "defective". Knowing what that meant I chose not to send it back and I saved myself time, money and aggravation.
I will try using the first joint of my finger and not curling it at all as has been suggested here the next time I take it to the range, maybe that will be better.
