I've got those same grips on order WITH the checkering. But they won't be in till January.
Mine will go on a SS GP100 with a 4" barrel.

| Welcome to the Family!
I'm sure I can speak for Redleg on this one regarding how proud we are regarding the 6 inch stainless GP with Hogue wooden grips! Redleg inspired me to get the wooden Hogue grips seen in the pic below after droolin' over pics of his GP!
Beautiful gun and although I have the Pau Ferro, those Rosewood grips are simply breathtaking!
Congrats!!!!!

Revoliver,
After working up and sighting in my hunting loads after adding the new grip, I had to lightly snug down the grip
screw twice, and it has not loosened since.
I think it was merely the wooden grip "settling" on the frame peg, under shock of recoil (which was very pleasant
with the Hogue grip), combined with my fear of overtightening the wooden grip.
Just an FYI....

Does anyone know why Ruger makes the sights black? They make the red blade as an option, why not just include with every revolver? The SP-101's have a fiber optic sight.
Then again why do they have an 8 round and 7 round magazine with each SP1911?

Thank you all for ven more kind replies!
@41RED: Will do!
@m1aman: January!?!? Wow, my condolences, that wait would kill me. Have you tried other ordering from other companies? I got mine in less than a week for far less than Hogue's price from Wholesalehunter.com. Either way, be sure to show some pice whenever you get them as I for one am very curious as to what my alternative looks like!
@deerhearse: Wonderful pic of your grip! Thank as well for the heads up on the possible need to tighten the saddle screw more after firing the gun, I actually had to do the same with the stock rubber monogrip way back when now that you've reminded me.
@leftofcentre67: Good questions, I'm still trying to figure out why Ruger discontinued makin their GBVR sight considering how many revolvers they make with the quick change plunger that it fits and how many people like and want a gold bead sight.

Not on ebay or gunbroker etc. either. So I finally decided to pay a little more for them (but still less than the Hogue site) and special ordered them from Midway. The web site, at the time, said 90+ days. Okay, I though that is cool. Later I get an email stating it would be January before they came in. Bummer. I'll probably find them online between now and then if I look...... so I just won't look.
I am not in a hurry. The factory grips are pretty dang good too and it is just a recreational gun to me. But would I do it again? Maybe not.

Congratulations. Your Ruger is not only a finely made revolver it is also strikingly beautiful.
Your choice in the grip is tasteful. Changing the front sight as you have done will only enhance your ability to quickly realign on target after shooting previous rounds.
All in all, you have a gun that will last years and years and during that time provide you with protection and target shooting enjoyment.
Stay safe and shoot straight!

Thank you both Quarterhorse and aimtrue!
To those that asked for or are also interest in a range report, I offer my apologies for not having time to get to the range at all since I've 'customized' my GP100. I also got sidetracked this Tuesday when I actually could have gone to the range, but I got permission from my wife to pick up a 77/357 so I immediately went to the LGS I knew had one to pick it up, only to be put on a 3 day hold... :'(
So now I'm bitting my fingernails down to the bones waiting for the NICS response.
On the bright side, once it goes through (which it should, I have nothing bad in my background afaik), I will have a great range trip and report ahead of me.

Nice looking gone you have there. Is that front sight after market or do the gp's come with it?
I would love something like that for my 686. I have an ugly orange ramp.

Thank you rdp357 and Rivers2k!
@Rivers2k: The front sight is part of the old Ruger Redhawk GBVR sight system (gold bead front sight as seen in pics and rear v-notch blade not shown) that has unfortunately been discontinued .
I was able to find mine NIB on Ebay from a seller named college4three (or some variation of that). You could also try a WTB add here on the forums.
As for whether it fits a 686 or not, I do not know if it will as it is Ruger's quick change plunger system.
