Just paid off my "1st Gen" GP100!

I have been looking for a nice 4" stainless adjustable sight GP100 made in the 1980's for a while, and I had one on layaway for 2 months now........it took some scrimping and saving but I finally sent in the last payment today!

I don't have pics yet, but it was made in 1989. Still has the original 2-piece Lett grips. I plan to leave this bone stock, maybe add a Millet front sight. I needed to fill this hole in my Ruger collection, I didn't have any "early" GP100's.

It would be neat to see some pics of member's early GP's from the first few years of production.......it may be just me but these have kind of a different "look" to the finish that I like.

I have to see this, mainly because I didn't know there were different generations of the GP100. I was under the impression that they'd all been basically the same from 1986-today.

I know they changed grips during 2008 from the rosewood insert ones to Hogue monogrips. I know they had some partial lug barrels. Otherwise, every one I've seen has been the same.

Pick mine up about the 10th of this coming month. Old cardboard Ruger box with the cardboard shipping box with it too. Rosewood rubber insert grips. Stainless 4inch barrel. Gonna put pacmyre gripper grips on it. Only need the Blackjack. 45 LC stainless 5 inch barrel to complete my pistol collection on what I want. My LGS keeps taking trades on pistols I want. DAM THEM GUYS. Oh yeah. 350.00 plus tax. And I will post pics.

Does it have a half lug? I really like that look.

My 1989 vintage blued 4" GP100. Besides the visible mod's, I did a full action job and installed lighten springs. It's one of the top 3 shooting wheel-guns in my safe, too close to call between them but it's truly outstanding.

That's a nice GP!

Mine should be on the way to my dealer soon, I'll post pics of it when I get it.

I was kind of making fun of the Glocks when I said my "1st Gen" GP100 But it is one of the early ones, with the semi-permanent grip locator pin that made it hard to switch the grips out.

I do have a 1990 production fixed sight GP, and it's just as good as my newest GP's so when they were made doesn't make much of a difference.

Great Find! I am looking to trade my 4" GP100 for a 3" fixed sight model on the forum soon. Good luck with your new find and enjoy shooting it often!
