So it felt like I was getting a better gun for only $80 and I didn't examine it closely enough at the time.
Moving up from a Taurus to a Ruger for $80 sounds like a good deal to me.

Did you buy this from a gun shop? If so that would seem to mean either they failed to notice it or they knew it but "forgot" to tell you about this defect.

Sad that consumers have to play the role of quality control inspector.

I did find this at a local shop but it was trade in from another customer and I don't think they realized the indexing problem. The photos I have taken with a torpedo level really make it stand out but when just holding it in your hands it wasn't so obvious. I've dealt with these folks on other things and they're a good shop. I only started looking closely when my groupings were so consistently low and and to the left.

"Caveat emptor" but at least with Ruger you have the company backing up the product. I was expecting to have to lay out my case to Ruger for sending in the gun but instead it was just the opposite. The lady on the phone was super nice and didn't hesitate to open up an RMA number and send me a pre-paid, overnight UPS label. They shipped it back 2-day air. Total time the gun was not in my posession was only 9 days!

I'm dying to get back to the range to see how it shoots but this weekend is too busy with other stuff so Tuesday will be my first chance.

It's easy to see how you missed the issue. I've seen the laundry list of things to check before buying a gun & I can't imagine how anybody short of a gunsmith could realistically check all in any reasonable amount of time.

Ruger sent it out without noticing it. The original owner wouldn't have bought it if they'd noticed. Your gun shop failed to notice it. So you'd make #4 on the list who didn't immediately notice.

Here's the final installment in my long saga of my 3" SP-101. If you've followed my story so far you know I got the gun back from Ruger last Friday. Today was the first chance I had to get to the range and see if the things done to it made a difference. And I'm here to tell you....

it made a BIG difference!!

Now you can see I'm no "Top Shot" but this was from 7 yards, no rest and it was at least closely matching my POI with POA. At least I didn't have to aim at the barcode in the upper right corner to hit the bullseye! When you're not an expert or competitive shooter you have these doubts that the problems are all in your technique and abilities. But I felt there had to be something wrong with this firearm and now I feel vindicated. And hats off again to Ruger CS for taking care of me. This SP-101 is going to be a little gem!
