| Thinking about a SP 101
I have wanted one for a while. One came in with a 2.25" barrel for $460 and my dealer said he would hold it for me. For those who own one; what do you like or dislike about it? I have a lot of experience with S&W, Colt, and Glock. Not much experience with Ruger. However, after purchasing my first Ruger (a super blackhawk) I am starting to become a real fan. So in short, any input about the SP 101 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Frank.

For that price,I would jump on it. I have had several, the one I have now the trigger pull is a little stiff, but it is a heck of a gun. I own the 2.25 in Talo version and the new 4.25",and if ruger ever starts distributing them again I will get the .22.

I have owned mine for 22 years. It shoots great. It is a gun that should be in everyone's collection.

I have both the 2" and the 4" model. They're both great, but the 4" has less recoil. If you're planning on shooting .357s, I don't think the 2" would be very enjoyable. In .38, though, it's fine.

The SP101 is the most durable 357 snubbie on the market. My only negative is the crappy trigger. Buy one and get someone that is competant to do a trigger on it and you will not regret it.

I am a recent owner of a used 3" and I can not imagine anything negative about it. Shoots great! 38s are a breeze to shoot and my medium 357 reloads were absolutely a blast to shoot too! Buy the SP!

The SP101's are a great gun. I just bought a SP101 in 22. I'm impressed with it . I like the Smith "J" frames for carrying only because they are lighter. The Ruger will take a steady diet of shooting hot stuff where with the Smith I limit it. I have what I believe to be an unfired SP101 in 9mm. I don't need another carry revolver. If I do I'm sure it will be a SP101 in 357 mag.

I am biased towards the SP101 and have several. Excellent self-defense gun and outdoor pistol. A bit heavy for pocket carry but that's really the only negative. Good useable sights but they can be improved on with night sights or a set of Gemini's if you want. Decent grips for concealment and recoil absorption but custom grips are available if you want to dress it up. Stout, durable design and easy takedown for cleaning. It will smooth out with use. I don't change out springs like some do as I am concerned about the light primer strikes that sometimes ensue. Instead I empty the cylinder and leave the hammer cocked for prolonged periods of time. This will (overtime) lighten the pull a bit but still provide enough energy to set off any primer. Mine likes .357 Remington Golden Sabers for self defense. Plinking loads are with HP-38 or Win 231 and 158 LSWCs.
Best Regards,
ADP3

Get it! You may have to play with the sites if you are as tickler for accuracy. It wil shout anything, but .357 is a bit intense. If you can wear it out. I will buy you a new one

JRB | SP101 with 2 1/4" barrel the poster speaks of has fixed sights, and mine are dead on.

Only con is the trigger which can be fixed. Ultimate gun for it's size. Great for target work, carry gun and small game. I have the 3", you will love it.
