A good friend of mine and I went down and got GP100s together. We took them out for a day target practice and plinking. Shot about 700 rounds from mild 890 ft/sec 38 special to wild 1650 ft/sec 357.
Great guns, we had a great time.

Congrats on you and your buddy's new shooting buddies! As the proud owner of a 6" ss full lug gp100 myself, all I can say is you've made an exceedingly wise descision in your choice of a shooting buddy as well. |

Great guns, we had a great time. | What ammo were you shooting to get 1650 fps?

I love my 4" more every time I shoot it. .38 spl's are fun, but .357 mags are awesome.
Bowling pins fear me........

Congrats on your new GP, It's one heck of a gun.
I just grin from ear to ear each time I shoot mine.
When I go shoot with other people everyone wants a piece of it!
It's fun to leave it all zipped up and than grab it last and watch as everyone gets in line to get their turn with it.
enjoy

The stuff I load runs 1175 fps. 14.9 gr of 2400, 125gr jhp.
After shooting 6 of his I said thanks but no thanks to any more.

The beauty of reloading is experimenting with all kinds of different recipes to find what works best for you.
Plinkers are fun...but full house magnums are great for putting on a nice light show. Also...being a recoil junkie doesn't help! LOL

Very wise choice indeed. So many new semi-autos all the time I love that people can still dig an awesome revolver. My GP100 would be in the running for my "one gun" if I had to have just one. Congrats. If you feel the need to tinker of course give Iowegan's vast collection of knowledge a read. Mine's even better since. Very smooth.

The GP100 will last you forever as long as you keep the handloads sane (and safe) and don't beat it up with light bullet, super hot .357's
It all started back in 2008 for me,when I got my first GP100 and first Ruger handgun, my 6" blue GP100............followed quickly by my 4" Speed Six........ I'm sure somewhere in the archives of the other gun forums I use is my post "just got one of these Ruger GP100's" and now I have over a dozen of them, and still adding to the collection.
This is my first GP, the day I got it back in Dec. of 2008.
The top GP100 is the same gun as it is right now. After trying about 10 different grips on it, I went back to the Letts that came on it=) Of all the GP100 grips I usually keep going back to those. It now has an XS Dot sight, a DAO hammer and I swapped in the gold colored springs that came out of a used GP I bought. One of my favorites!

GPs are great revolvers. Mine never fails to impress me, no matter how much or how often I shoot it and that is a lot. One GP, though, is not enough. That's the only negative.

What a beautiful gun. I'm using a 4" SP101 now, but I'm thinking of adding a 4" GP100 next. Just gotta find the money.
