| SS sight differences
Came across a reference by Millett on Security Six rear sights. They break the difference at serial number 157-14152. What difference is there in the frame or the sight that would call for differentiation at a particular SN? Are the sights different or did a frame change call for a different sight?

The serial number break point that Millett lists (157-14152) comes in the middle of the 1981 serial number block. Although I can't be sure that the change happened at the same time, a Ruger Security-Six manual from 1986 lists a rear sight assembly (complete) with the note "Specify whether sight has bump on underside".
I can't tell if it was the new or old sight assembly that had the "bump", but it seems to me that would make a difference in whether the part would fit.

I never got the whole difference in Ruger DA rear sights...........I have a 1978 Security Six and it had a banged up rear sight, so I dropped in a rear sight assembly I took off a 2005 production GP100 that I put Meprolight sights on. 0 issues, the rear sight fit right in there.
I know the late model Security Sixes use a different front sight, the red insert sight blades have a different profile to the part that fits into the channel in the top of the barrel.

OK, so I should be able to fit a GP-100 sight to my late model stainless gun? I'm going to get one and see. I was looking at an extra Colt sight that I have, to see if I could mount it, even if I have to drill a hole or two.
Thanks

You can pick up used GP100 rear sights of EBay or GunBroker for a few bucks, there are a lot of "take off" sights from people who added fiber optic or some other sight. They are also available as new sights, but the new ones are MIM and have the Ruger logo on them.
I have never heard of a "different" rear sight for an earlier Security Six, I even have an early "low back" Security Six that looks to have a much later GP100 rear sight.
I see no reason why a GP100 rear sight wouldn't fit your later production Security Six.
