| Centerfire LCR sights, what distance??
I hope I finally make it to the range this weekend with my new LCR-357.
Hoping someone can tell me the approximate distance their .357 or .38 LCR sights match POI with POA. Then I'll have a starting point for where to set up my targets. I don't want to waste any of that pricey .38 ammo....
Ruger normally ships adjustable sight handguns set to about 25 yards, and fixed sights seem an inch or so low at 25 yards. Being fixed, I'll assume they are just engineered to be that way. Just guessing they may have engineered a snubby to hit dead-on a little closer?

Mine is right on at 7 yards -- aim at the bullseye -- hit the bullseye.

Mine shoots right on anywhere from 5- 10 yards. i dont think that your POA and POI will be the same at 25 yds on this self defense gun. That equals 75 ft and that is a pretty good distance for self defense situations. It is not a target gun by any means. BTW I absolutely love my LCR in .38 special and it is my EDC gun.

Most the LCRs shot at my range are shot by others but I see impact usually below the X between 3-15 yards. If you were benching the gun, 357 of same weight as the 38s would print higher as would heavier bullets. (more recoil hit higher)
The further back you get the more your sighting errors magnify. "Older" eyes tend to go way high farther back because they lose focus on front sight trying to see the distant target and the post drifts high because of it. Even at 45 feet my top frames take a lot of hit with folks who need bi-focals or even youth who lose focus on front sight.
Not sure how formal your range is but 0-45 feet with emphasis between 0-25 feet makes sense to me. I personally would start at 15 feet and see how where it prints and go forward and backward from there.
If the threat is at 25 yards, more distance (get away) seems a more possible option. Civilian self-defense would normally be much closer...

Thank you gentlemen. I had assumed the working sight distance would be pretty short. I'll set my target at 20 feet and go from there.
It's an outdoor Forest Service range, unsupervised. Doesn't matter if I set the target at six feet, or walk out to it and shoot point blank, so long as no one else is shooting..... |
