New GP100

Hello everyone, new member here, and new Ruger owner.

Today I shot for the first time 50 rounds of 357 through my new stainless GP100 in 4" and it was fantastic.

I had sold my pre-lock SW 686 in 6" thinking that "I only shoot semi-autos now". Hmm, not so... Only a few days after I sold it I was already missing it. I figured I would go with a Ruger this time.

I read about the Ruger trigger and was ready to take mine apart for a trigger job, but I honestly don't know if it needs it. I can't notice any difference between my GP100 and my previous 686. I am not making any general statements about SW and Ruger, I only know that the trigger on my new Ruger was just like the triger on my old 686. (Who knows, maybe it was the other way around, the trigger on my 686 was bad )

The only difference is that in DA the Ruger has an extra "step" while pulling the trigger slowly, but in no way did that throw me off.

I think I'm going to take it apart just... because I can (at least I hope so). I'm curious how it looks inside.

All in all, I'm surprised how excited I am about it.

Congrats on a great revolver. Now you won't have to bend over to pick up your brass at the range.

100% recovery rate! Can't beat that.

Not long ago I went to the indoor range with my 1911 on a quiet morning. Very little activity at the range. When I got to the assigned lane, lo and behold, hundreds of 38 and 357 brass on that little table. I looked left, right, and no one was there.

I figured if no one comes after it by the time I'm done shooting, it's mine. No one came, and it was mine. Bless the guy who didn't just throw it in front of the line.

Got mine this week but busy at work and hope to get to the range within the week. Glad to hear someone else picked one up. I got the blued and will be putting on a set of Hogues as soon as they are ready.

If yours is anything like mine, I think you'll be very happy with it. Out of the box just nice and smooth.

I want to change the grips too. That's the only thing I'm not crazy about. I liked the old style grips with rosewood, but I have to start looking what else is out there.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum. There is a big difference in trigger pull from my 80s series Redhawks and my 2000 series Redhawks. One thing I think Ruger has been paying more attention to.

Try the Hogue store site at Hogue Inc., The Best Value In Handgun Grips, Rifle Stocks and Accessories - Bar None!. They have Rosewood as well as many other woods and configurations. I ordered 80231 in Goncalo for my GP 100 but did not like the striped butt cap and wanted straight wood to make it look like the grips on the old S&W 19. E-Mailed their customer service (Which is Superb!) and they said, sure, no problem. A little on the expensive side at $109.00 but from all accounts that I have seen, they are worth it. Easy to replace too, just need to swap and change the stirrup they supply with the one that came with the gun.

I hardly shoot semi-autos anymore, I was shooting my CZ85b recently and got bored...........had a blast shooting my 6" GP100 though

I just need a 9mm revolver to shoot all the 9 I bought for the Glock I traded for a Speed Six!

aro,
Congrats on your new GP and welcome to the forum!
One word of warning, keep an eye on your wallet. Now that you got your first taste of Ruger DA revolvers you could fall into a bad addiction for which there is no 12 step program.

Awards Showcase

I also had a few 686's, & now have GP100's. They have been outstanding revolvers ! Here's two of mine.
