Very nice! One of the best handguns ever made! It's only tied with the GP100 as the best .357 ever made, both have their strong points.
I have a 6" blue Security Six, I want one in stainless bad! I would love an earlier round recoil shield model like that one.

The service grips are great for packing, but Ruger makes a nice target grip and they are still on sale for $10. I purchased a pair for my Security Six and really like them. Here is a link to the grips. Grips-Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. | Thanks my friend, I ordered a set. Not sure which I will like best when shooting, but for the price, it was worth picking up a set.
Thanks

| Congratulations! My favorite Ruger revolvers are the Six series.
...and I just bought one yesterday!
Mine is a 1975 blue 2 3/4", in nearly new condition, but with no box and rubber grips*. I paid $395 for it, and would gladly buy another at that price. I have had maybe 5 or 6 Sex series Rugers over the years, and I had always thought they would be easy to find again. BUT i have not seen one for sale for several years.
They are great revolvers...mine is 37 years old and is just smoothing up from use! I plan on a lot of dry firing to help that along just a bit.
FWIW, OP- The PA State Police were issued the same revolver you just bought - a 6" stainless with the wood grips- and they looked like they were carrying a cannon! I have little doubt that many bad guys calmed down considerably with one of those long barrels pointed at them. This was in the late 1970's-early 1980's, IIRC. Believe me, if I ever see a 6"er for sale, I will certainly buy it if it is at all reasonable. They are GREAT shooters and no one makes anything as good today. You can also carry it in a good quality shoulder holster...I have done it in the past, and I think I still have the holster...
Enjoy it- I think you got a great deal and a great revolver.
* I also like the factory wood grips, and have found a set online that I will buy today, but I like the standard grips rather than the target.

I like the originals and on ebay, I got a more figured set awhile back, so will have to see how they look on it. As for the target, for $10.01, I figured I would grab a set from the ruger site. They cost more elsewhere and if I dont like them, I can sell them for what I paid.
Can't wait to shoot it, I have been busy working and the range is always PACKED.
Now I have 2 - 4" service-six's and this 6" security-six. The service-six's shot great and I am very happy with the pair. I am thinking this one should shoot better.

I had 2 6"ers over the years, both blue. They did shoot very well. I like the sights on them a lot, too.
It's great to find one with the box, etc, too...Most people just threw them away.
Enjoy it.

I love my blue 6", the Target grips, aka "Big Grips" as Ruger used to call them, are the way to go on a 6" Security Six.
It's my only 6" Security Six, I have two others, both 4", and blued. I love the round recoil shield, light barrel 6" Security Six and I want one bad. I still regret the one I passed up at a gun show, it was heavily holster buffed with stock "slim" wood grips that were nicely darkened from use. Was either carried for hunting for many seasons, was a "farm" sidearm or a LEO gun, it had seen a lot of going in and out of holsters. It looked great, just a classic mid-70's Ruger that had actually been used and carried |

The year that gun was made, 1976, I was a kid passing out Forget-Me-Nots at a bicentenial 4th of July parade in South Range, Michigan for the DAV auxilliary unit my Mom and Dad were a part of. Funny how a year can trigger a memory!
You have a special bicentenial gun...enjoy and treasure it! |

It changed the gun and really improved my ability to shoot accurately. |
