price of new sp101?

i went this morning to get a taurus 605 for $360+tax, while in the shop the guy said why not get the ruger sp101 for not much more. i asked his low dollar out the door for a new sp101, the casing envelope is dated february 2nd 2012. he came back and said $460otd well for less than $100 difference i got the ruger. did i do ok? was that a good price? i know i'm happy with the gun, but i haven't fired it yet. thanks

Yes you did just fine, most stores in my area want $520+ 9.6% tax, so you got it for about $100 less than I can.

A Ruger is lot better revolver than the Taurus, enjoy it.

Sounds like a good deal to me as well. The list for the SP101 is about $640 and cabelas has it for about $550, so I think you did well at $460 otd.

I paid $475+tax a couple weeks ago. Right after I bought it, it went up another $8.

You made the right decision. Even if the Ruger wasn't a better gun, there are enough people who think it is. That being the case, the knowledge base for the SP101 is much greater. Once you have your gun, start looking into the spring, shim, and polishing mods that are recommended here. I doubt you'd find the online directions for the Taurus that you can find for the Ruger.

You done good!

You now have probably the most overbuilt compact revolver ever made. If you fire 357 out of it you will wear out your wallet before the gun. It was only available in 38 and some smiths rechamberd it to 357. In fact a very collectable version is the early factory 357 marked 125 grain only. The factory opened the cylinder window shortly after 357 began production. So only a few were made with the 125 grain only markings. Just a interesting tidbit.

The best price I've seen at my LGS for quite some time is a sale they are having right now $439+tax=468.I think you bought well and is certainly an upgrade over the Taurus.

That's a good price for a very good gun. And made in the US too.

Very good price! About the same price OTD at my LGS. However, price is much higher at Bass Pro or some of the local range stores.

That price is average for where I shopped last year here in NC. I have noticed a price increase on SP101s. I bought my 3" 357 for around what you paid over a year ago, maybe 18 months, but I noticed they now cost 50-75 more. I think Ruger raised prices.

I think you did very good. I just bought mine from a place called AFIELD in Cincinnati and paid 483.00 plus tax and I thought that was a great deal and you got it even cheaper than that.

Looked for one at a G.S. yesterday, and for a stubby in 357 I would grab one at that price in a heart beat.

Only saw a .22 in a SP101 and that wasn't my direction.

Keep em coming!

You actually saved money by buying the SP101.
If you would have bought the Taurus, you would
have realized pretty quickly that you wouldn't
like it. Then you would have sold it for a loss and
turned around and bought the SP101 anyway.
