The Dan Wesson is awfully nice though, and DW just brought it back! (Mine is 1981 vintage)

Nope!
Answering the "if I could only have one" question, that would be the one. To me it's main weakness would be size and weight for concealed carry, but if I had to I'd find a way.

I've had some issues with my LC9 that I haven't been shy about voicing in the pistols section but Ruger quality is certainly evident in the GP100.

My Colt Python 4", 1968. Hands down.

Next my Smith and Wesson Performance Center Model 637, 8 shot 4" 357 Magnum.

However, I love my Ruger. I'm getting a trigger job on it.

Though I do like Rugers, IMO, the absolute best revolvers are Colt SAA.

GP100 for sure, regardless of barrell length!!!

But, for the sake of pure "purtyness" and unabashed gun lust...add some Hogue Pau Ferro grips (I was inspired to do this by Redleg), and behold the beauty of the GP!!!:

In the new gun market the 4" GP is the one.

Put it this way...if I had to evacuate the house in an emergency and could only grab one gun, it would be my 4" SS GP100.

Since we are presumably limiting this discussion to 0.357" caliber guns....

Actually, I somewhat prefer its predecessor, the 4" Security-Six. Feels better balanced and more "packable". Since those guns are now older and presumably pretty well used, the triggers tend to be well broken in and are nice 'n' smooth.

You would leave your other guns behind?

I don't think I could go on if I left one of my guns behind.

We all make it out or we all stay, together.
We're that close of a family.

Yes I agree. The best double action revolver Ruger ever made is the 4" Security/Service Six. In fact all the Six series.
The Six Series is the closest thing to the S&W K frame magnum. Too me the K frame was the best revolver S&W ever made. The Security Six is very close only stronger than the K frame.

Howard

The thing about the GP100 is that it is absolutely a firearm that I would trust my life to. I have the 6" version and when I am having a good day it is scary accurate. Reliable as heck, and it also looks dangerous, which in a confrontation may be a factor. Granted it is not a concealed carry piece, what with its size, but then here in the People's Republic of California concealed carry is not a consideration, thanks to our Supreme Soviet.

The other thing about the GP100 is that it is just plain built to last. My grandkids will be enjoying mine, if my kids would get busy and give me some.
