Replacing LCR Front Sight with Hi -Viz sight

Hi all, I'm just trying to find out how hard is it to replace the LCR front sight with the Hi -Viz sight before I buy one. I replaced the front sight on my GP-100 with the Hi-Viz and it was a silmple drop in using the push back retainer pin. I undertand you have to tap out the LCR front sight roll pin to remove & replace the old one, but I wanted to be sure the Hi-Viz just drops in and no filing, grinding etc. mods needed.

Anybody do this at home with the right size punch, light plactic end hammer etc. with details?

ShadyW,
From what I understand,Hi-Viz makes a drop in front sight for your LCR. No problem to lightly tap out the pin and put the new sight in place.
Key to it is to be sure that the bbl is in a PADDED vice and using the proper punch you can tap out the pin and replace the sight.

Thx Top Dog. Now right there is one reason I asked first, I'd never thought of needed ing a vice or padding it. I haven't been a big handyman for several yrs. (in fact since HS probably) I'm more of a tech nerd. I'd still like to add the Hi-Viz, but it may be dependent upon getting a proper work bench space and such setup. I'm not against going this way as I'm considering reloading eventually, so will put the design requiremnts nto the plan.

Thx again for the info.

Some gun stores will install stuff like that for you if you buy it from them. I paid a little extra for a scope just so they would mount it for me. They used the tool to align the two sets of rings and used a click adjustable mini torque driver to set the screws. I would have just got thread lock oozing and broke out the Craftsman set... I bet they would order your sight and pop your old one out and pop your new one in for you.

I added a Night Sight to mine. Not the same sight, but the same installation method.

I simply laid the gun on a folded towel on my bench to tap out the pin from left to right. There isn't a lot of pressure needed, so just take your time.

1/16" punch will fit the pin, preferably brass and a light hobby hammer will do the job.

Once the pin is out lift off the old sight, I put a little loctite in the new sight and placed it over the ramp. Reinsert the pin. Took me 15 minutes, if that.

Here's a nice link with photos and instruction installing the HiViz on an LCR:

You need: 1/16" punch, hammer. I used a towel on my work bench to prevent scratching my LCR. Took about 15-20 minutes. Be patient.

Punch out the roll pin from right to left(looking down on top of the barrel as if you are holding the revolver in you hand. <== The factory sight will likely come out easily. Install the new roll pin left to right ==> in the HiViz sight. You may have to strike it pretty hard.

Once the old roll pin was partially out, I had to use needle-nose pliers to pull it completely out.

I have the green sight that I can see great with this tired old eyes of mine.

Thx all & thx for the link to the pictures of your project Rock Doctor. Like TJB
said on your posted link, that was one of my questions too as to whether the Hi -Viz would fit without any filing etc. and you post shows it is a sight that slides over a fixed post on the LCR so no problem there. I think I'm handy enough to try the towel and punch method. I was thinking I was going to have to setup a permanent workstation I don't have room for yet, but I do have a portable Black & Decker one I've used for some time that's met most of my needs. Guess I'll order the Hi-Vizand get it done.

Oh, my eyes are coming up on 60 and the Hi-Viz on my GP-100 helped immensly, so I was looking forward to the same results with the LCR.

HiViz on LCR

Putting a HiViz on LCR was no problem. I used a padded vise, roll pin punch and brass hammer. To put the new sight on, I used a pliers with plastic pads to squeeze the pin through the sight once I had it started. Make sure that you can see through the hole before starting the pin.
