I'm a bit leary about getting a .327. I'm not sure if it will catch on enough.

The .327 only seems to make sense to me if you reload. And in my honest opinion....the .327 on the GP100 is a bit overkill.
I have a .327 Charter Arms Patriot in a 2.5" barrel, and it is more than manageable. I also have an SP101 .357 in a 2.2" barrel. Shooting the commercial loadings through my Charter .327 is like a mouse fart compared to some of the commercial .357 loadings through my SP101. I have read that .327 mags are comparable to .38 spcl +p's....which seems like a pretty good comparison.
I guess if I were in your shoes...I would go with the 3.06" SP101 in .327....or a 3" GP100 in .357.

I went with the GP100 in 327. I like the weight and adjustable sights. It also feels like my other GPs. Really the only thing I don't like about the SP is that drift adjustable rear site. If it were fixed like the rest of the SPs I'd be looking for one.

I like both, but, unless you get a Hogue mono grip, the SP 101 can make a hand numb after 30 rnds or so.

Both are great guns.
Chambered in .357
As neat as the .327 is it hasn't gained much traction with the public. Even if you throw in 32 mag, 32 long, and 32 short, ammo availability is limited at best. So, if your an avid reloader then it's a neat cartridge. If your not then good luck with your new paper weight.

Get both guns and customize your loads, I think you will like them. I shoot this more than any other caliber.....they are just fun to shoot (including .22's). Try a 98 g DEWC with AA#2 and 115g RNFP's over Green Dot. - gene

I have the SP-101 in .327 and it has been a great revolver! The .327 rounds bark a bit but the Hogue grip I put on it reduces the recoil. .32 H&R Mag is quite easy to shoot and the .32 S&W round feels like shooting a .22 LR.
The ammo availability is the only downside but I can always find something to shoot in it. Go for it and you won't be sorry!

If you specifically like the caliber, despite all the reasons previously mentioned, I'd personally go with the SP101.
I have a 9mm SP, and frankly have been shopping for the 327 myself, just because it's not mainstream. The 9mm is a hoot to shoot, and while stout it manages it well.
I agree in the GP platform the 327 might seem anemic, could you imagine shooting 32 short in a GP? Just doesn't seem appropriate somehow.
I'm patiently awaiting the new issues of SP's in .22, but then I'm still waiting on the SR1911 too. |

I have a 327 SP101. I bought it thinking I would cc with it. Since then, I've bought other guns I like to cc better.
My SP101 is fairly accurate with 85 grain bullets but throws 100 grainers 5"-7" high at 20 yards. I reload and I've tried various powders and charges hoping to correct this, but it still shoots high.
So now I have a gun that I seldom use and can't really count on being able to use the heavier bullets. If I had purchased a GP100 instead, I could just adjust the sights to whatever load I want and would have a decent "trail" gun.
I guess you could say I'm not as big of a fan of the SP101 as others on this forum are, but I do like the GP100s.
Best of luck with your choice.

I have the sp and wish I also had the gp, the sp is a handful when shooting max loads as I like to do.
