Aright guys I decided to field strip my sp101 for the first time. That went pretty good. My question is I thought I read somewhere that the standard hammer spring is 14 pounds correct me if i'm wrong. I just replaced it with a wolf 12 pound spring. Is there any problem with just replacing the hammer spring? I should of brought the trigger pound gage home from work and checked before and after but I did not. I don't really dare to replace the trigger return spring with a wolf 8 pound spring until I can get one of the SP101 gun guides.
I changed my hammer spring to the 10 pound and left the original return spring in place. No problems in shooting the last 1000+ rounds of my reloaded ammo.
I replaced the hammer springs on all my SPs, only one trigger spring. I found the trigger spring didn't help all that much for the effort required to install it. No problems on any of them.
I changed mine to the 12# spring years ago and have yet to have any problems. Some toothpaste and a lot of working the action will smooth things out a bit. Can easily stage mine. Smooth in DA and SA yet not too light of a trigger to make it an unwanted concern.
You do not have to replace both springs at the same time. I replaced just the main spring in my SP101. The trigger is noticeably lighter now, but since i've also dressed and polished all the mating surfaces in the trigger assembly, including the channel of the return spring, it is impossible now to tell how big a contribution was from the main spring, and what was due to the smoother parts.
I do not have a trigger weight gauge, but i know that the trigger job made a big improvement. Before, my daughter could not shoot it DA (without using TWO fingers), it was just way too heavy for her. After the trigger job she's had no problem with shooting it accurately in DA.
I agree. I just changed my hammer spring to the 10# Wolff spring and left the factory trigger return spring in. Made a big difference in the trigger pull and I haven't had any light strikes at all. Very easy job and took only about 10 minutes to do.
The trigger pull on my LCR is about 10 pounds, so reducing the trigger pull on my SP101 DAO makes sense. I stoned the trigger group surfaces for smoother interaction. I reduced trigger pull from 14 pounds to 10 pounds by replacing the Main Spring and Trigger Guard Latch Spring with a Wilson Combat spring kit #349.
