The HiViz fiber-optic sights look pretty nice but I'm open to looking at others. Looking for lit conditions sights because I'm adding a CT grip to ours.
Do you have a picture of them? I am in search of one from the sight picture forward which I can't find.
Yea just looking for a good acquisition sight for lighted. For low light or dark I see no use in even the good glow in the dark ones. Laser all the way!
I put a HiViz on my wifes 101 and my 100, chose the green, really can find the front sight quicker. The 101 also has a CT on it, handy tool for point and shoot training for her.
Not sure, I knew these were made of steel so they would be tough. The others may be made of steel as well, just not sure. Now these do not do a darn thing for "dark" conditions.
Niether do the more expensive ones. I never saw the benefit to them really. In order to glow it requires light. In the dead of night you can't charge them up and it only lasts for so long. Then the coating has a shelf life that makes them a throw away after a period of time. It's like flushing $20's where a laser is the better option.
I have the HI-Viz on my GP-100 in green. They are easy to install, and work great. Very fast sight picture. I use my 4.2" in IDPA and love the gun with that sight on it.
Are you mixing up tritium sights with fiber optic sights? Of course, the fiber optic sights will last indefinitely, unless broken by impact... The tritium sights have a life of 8 to 11 years, regardless of exposure to other light sources.
I am waiting for tritium products to drop in price... hopefully before some litigious characters "proves" they cause some disease or something.
I have been VERY impressed with fiber optic light gathering in lower light situations... Way better than in the old days when we complained about black iron sights and did nothing about it! We shoulda invented all this stuff.
Some solvents - especially the harsher Gun Scrubber/Brake Cleaner types - can cause the surface of the fiber to get frosty, reducing its efficiency. The may also deform it badly enough that it falls out (as happened to me on another gun) reducing its efficiency even further. That's why I especially love the GP's easily removable sight.
I just installed the hi viz on my GP-100. And so far I like it better than the stock front. If you are looking for a sight that will show up in the dark, fibers are not it. The fiber tubes, as stated before will cloud over with most cleaners so it would be beneficial to rmove the sight prior to cleaning and clean seperately. Again thank goodness for easy of removal!!! Even the glow in the dark sights have issues as they need to be charged. If the gun is in a safe most of the time it won't matter that night you take it out cause you need it. For nighttime oh sh*t scenario's a laser will be your best bet unless of course your gun sits out on a nightstand exposed then the glow in the dark, tritium's..etc will work just fine. Just my opinion here
Take a look at the Williams Fire Sights if they make them for your gun. I put them on my 22/45RP. They make it easy to establish an accurate sight picture quickly. The fit between the rear and front sights seems to be tighter than other fiber optic sights making them very accurate for me.
I just put the Ruger stock red-ramped sight on my GP100. It was surprising to me how much better this makes the sight picture as opposed to the black front sight. For now I am satisfied with this. Frankly, Ruger should make this the standard sight as does S&W.
What a great revolver that allows the user to swap out the sight this way. Had the old one out and the new one in in a couple of minutes!
I have the green high viz on my 4" GP and the red ramp on my 6". Both are better than the stock black sight. The high viz will show up good in fairly low light conditions.
My 4" GP now has the Hi Viz sight in red. I find it is much better than the stock version. Very visible in variable lighting especially indoors. Great upgrade.
Intercooler- I clicked to the Amazon sight you posted but have a question. The green optic (P series) is featured and has a round base. Below that is the "other customers bought/looked" option which has the red optic and ramped base (GP100). I'm not sure which is which if I want green for my GP100.
Get the one that says its for a GP100, it will come with about half a dozen fiber optic inserts which are really easy to swap out. Mine came red but I just took it out and put the green one in. It took less time than typing this did.
That P-series sight is only for fixed sight guns. Most GP have the pop out style front sight. I'm actually looking for a replacement pop out front sight if anyone would like to send me there old one they are replacing.
I can't promise I still have mine, but if I do it has some orange nail polish on the ramp. If you are interested I can look for it when I get home from work.
Have HI/VIZ and Williams Fire Sights on 4 guns, and they are both good for what I use them for ,target shooting
