Pocket carry an SP101?

I have a SW 642 that is incredibly light and easy to pocket carry, only problem is it is my wife's! I have really wanted an SP101 for a long time and will likely get it even if pocket carry isn't very realistic, but for those of you who ACTUALLY pocket carry an SP101, what are your impressions? I slip my Glock 26 in my pocket from time to time and I have a bigger issue with the blockiness than the weight. And looking at some overlay pics I have seen, the SP101 is 1/4" taller and less than 3/4" longer, so it seems occasional pocket carry, other than weight, shouldn't be much worse than the SW Airweight.

Mine's (SP101 2") in my pocket right now, getting ready to go to Lowes. I have a Hogues on it, it sticks out about an inch but my shirt covers it.
I just don't like carrying it IWB holster, always sort of rides up and fells like it will fall out. I guess I just have not found the right one

My Glock rides IWB and OWB pretty well, just doesn't fill the "slip in the pocket and go role". Do you use a holster in your pocket?

You might consider an LCR, instead of an SP101, for pocket carry. The LCR is more concealable and half the weight (13.4 oz vice 25 oz).

The LCR .357 is 17.1 oz. It is as concealable as the LCR, but would manage .38 special recoil better. I do not shoot .357 magnum: I cannot control the recoil.

I've got a 3" and it is semi-doable but you better have a good belt (and maybe suspenders) with either the 2" or 3" IMHO.

I've never been able to carry a revolver that didn't print, including my SP101. I carry either IWB or, if I have to tuck the shirt, in a belly band.

That being said, maybe I've never found the right pocket holster.

I have a 2" DAO SP101 that I pocket carried for about a year before switching to a 642. The weight was manageable with a quality belt, but the grips wouldn't always be completely hidden in the pocket. It really depended on the brand of pants, and I think cargos worked better than jeans. I use the factory grips, which are about as small as you can get.

Mine goes in a pocket holster. Galco I think. It definitely prints, but it doesn't look like a gun so much as a bad case of Fat Wallet Syndrome.

I once used this setup on a 3-day hike, and it was a mistake: we must've covered 25 miles or so, and by the end of it my thigh had chafed and developed a blister where the heavy pocket would rub with every step. Now I have a shoulder holster for the SP101, and a pocket holster for the 642, either of which seems like a good combination.

Personally, the SP101 is fine for short periods of pocket carry, if I happen to be wearing the right pants for it.

Well I guess we will see, just brought an SP101 home! I was looking for a bobbed hammer but a non-bobbed fell in my lap for $325! Couldn't pass it up. I think I am going to get a belt holster for it and give it a run as is. May or may not bob it......

I pocket carried my 2 1/4" for several years in a Simply Rugged Pocket Protector. With a good belt and cargo pockets it will carry in a pocket without much issue. I never bobbed the hammer as it would not snag with the pocket holster. As for a belt holster give the Crossbreed Supertuck IWB a look. That is what I use for belt carry and I have an LCR now for pocket carry. Good luck and congrats on picking up a great little revolver.

Whether you decide it will work for pocket carry or not, you will not regret buying the sp101. They are a great little revolver!

Get the right pants and belt - I can pocket carry the 3" with no issue.

Return later and let us know how it is going. I find the SP a bit to bulky, and twice to heavy for pocket carry....but just fine in a holster or fanny pack.

I carry my SP101 in a Blackhawk#3 pocket holster with uncle mikes boot grips in cargo shorts in the summer with no problem. You will just need a good belt to keep your shorts where they belong. I carry my Glock 26 in the same pocket holster also in the summer time.

the only way i would pocket-carry an SP101 is in Carhartt bibs, or even regular overalls, or a sturdy jacket - like leather, or a canvas "work" jacket.

i carry an LCR in my pocket though.

my SP rides OWB, and i have no problem CCing it with t shirt or even a light jacket or sweatshirt.
