| Hogue grip installation on SP101
In one of the threads on various grips for the SP101, a few posters noted they had difficulty installing the Hogue grips. Others reported no problems.
Do the grips come with installation instructions? How are they secured to the SP101? How difficult is the installation?

The problem I had when installing the grips was getting the supplied screw to bite on the nut. I even had Hogue send me another screw but that did not work. I happened to have a properly threaded screw of the same length that worked. I could never figure out why. I love the grip now, but why the difference in the screws I could never figure out. My screw was silver not the black that is supplied.

They do come with instructions. It took me two tries to get mine on then it settled in just fine. You kind of have to pry the grips apart to make sure they slide over the frame.

I have Hogue mono's on my SP and am glad I went that way. It's a longer grip and now have room for my little finger.

The Hogue monogrip on an SP101 is great. I have a set in rubber and also a set in wood. The wood ones just slip right on, the rubber ones take a little more effort. You have to make sure they are lined up just right and make sure they are spread a little at the top as mentioned earlier, but once you get them on they are great. A really nice upgrade from the originals, IMHO.

I guess Im the only one who put them on and then took them off after a couple of hundred rounds. I liked them but they are harder to conceal and the stock grips feel a lot better to me and I think I shoot better with the stockers on.

After trying others, I decided overall Ruger got this one right. For Hogue fans, tho, Hogue also makes their grip in nylon, much less sticky for concealment.

Installation of the Hogue grip was a breeze, and the fit was perfect. I have relatively large hands and the stock grip leaves my pinkie unsupported. I can see how the stock grip would be good for carry purposes.

+1 on not the only one. The Hogues are nice when shooting full bore 357 mag but do make it harder for concealing the gun.
Went back to the stock grips but am now trying out the Butler Creek boot grips. They work pretty well but your middle finger still gets jammed. Noticed that there is a lot of material between the first finger slot (middle finger) and the frame. May do a little material removal in this area to get some additional clearance.
