First Post! New SP101, want new sights

Hey guys, this is my first post!!!! I just got my sp101 3" barrel today and so far I LOVE IT. This is my first revolver so I've just got into real guns (played paintball for many years now). Im looking into getting my ccw soon. ANYWAYS. I just won some Hogue grips on ebay for cheap so should recieve them soon and would like some new sights. I've read reviews of the meprolight, trijicon, and gemini. One person said that the merolight was a little weird on the 3" barrel so changed to the trijicon. Im kinda interested in the gemini vs the meprolight though. I like the white dot on the meprolight, but does it also light up at night? Thanks guys!

Congrats on your new SP101 !

I bought a new 3" also a couple of weeks ago and haven't got to shoot it yet. I am going tomorrow to see how this thing shoots!

I (and most others i think) use Meprolight on their SPs... but i have a 2.25" so i can't speak to the issue with them on the 3" versions, but i have heard that as well.

i have only seen one or two pics of the Trijicon on a SP, but not in person.

Gemini makes a couple nice options, but none are night-sights (to my knowledge). i think they have fiber optic, gold bead, white dot(?), and black... as far as i know.

I have the 2 1/4" SP and put a little paint on the front sight for visability and don't have experience with the high viz options. One other option to consider is a set of Crimson Trace laser grips for your SP.

I have a 3" 101 and the Mepro's are the only way to go. Way better than factory sights.

I have a 2 1/4" with Meprolights. If I had not sold my three inch, it would have Meprolights. If I were to acquire another three incher, it would soon have Meprolights. As far as I'm concerned there is no down side to them.

Well, maybe one. That's drilling the hole in the new sight. If you're handy with tools and have some experience with drills, it's a simple job. If not, pay someone to install it for you.

Ordered the meprolights, do I drill the sight while it is in the gun or do I mark it somehow and drill it out of the gun?

I am going to try the method Terry talked about first: using nail polish, white base coat, hunter orange coat, then clear coat.. If this doesn't work then I will buy another sight. Here is a pic:

I've got Mepro on my GP100, they're great.
I would love to try the XS Big Dot though. In theory they make sense, but all my duty semi autos always had a three dot setup (Meprolight or Trijicon). So I went with a known quantity.
Getting a SP101 soon myself, and wondering if I should try the Big Dot? If I like it I'll need to change my GP100 over too.
Either way I like night sights on handguns.

I'll prob go with the mepro's. When I get them on will the gun still fit in a holster made for the sp101? Didnt know if it would b/c it looks a little bigger than the stock sight.

The only departure I had from ucabears was I used actually flourescent orange acrylic hobby paint for the second coat so there was a little longer drying period after the second coat. The real key is the final coat with the top coat clear nail polish as that gives it the durability.
