New .22LR 8 shot SP ??

At another website mention was made Ruger may be coming out with a new .22LR SP. Supposedly, it has a 4" bbl., fully adjustable rear sight and holds 8 rounds in the cylinder. Here is a link:

lots of people have been crying for ruger to bring back a .22 sp101, myself included and I would be surprised if they don't.

if the rumor is true you can bet I'll be down at my LGS placing an order

I would love to have one, with the 3 1/16" barrel. Count me in.

I'd seriously consider one. I've been looking at the S&W 617 (capacity of 10 rounds), but I just can't afford it (~$700.) Hopefully the Ruger will be more affordable.

Thanks for the heads up.

Even if one can afford it, S&W prices are still offensive. I want to buy a gun, not a name.

I've been hoping for a .22LR revolver of some sort, preferably something the size of the Security-Six. However, if this SP version is actually reasonably priced, I might go for it, otherwise the Taurus 94's going to be my choice. I'm definitely not paying S&W prices just for their name (+1 to KJS on that).

I have a 4" SP .22, but would be interested in an 8 shot version with a fully adjustable rear...........interesting to say the least.........

I'd love a ruger DA .22. I'd personally prefer one on the GP100 frame, but I'd buy one on the SP frame if that's all they offered. Especially if it came with a 4" barrel and adjustable sights.

Really looking forward to what SHOT show will hold. Ruger 1911 and .22 SP101?

I have heard the rumors too! Jeff Quinn posted on another site it could be coming. He said he has handled 3 new Ruger and knows of at least one more that is new for 2011. Hope to find out soon! I am awaiting Shot show with more anticipation than Christmas!

On another note I have a dilema. There is a local auction on the first that has an sp101 22lr listed in it. Should I wait and see what Ruger brings out, or buy the sp101?

I would love to see it come out with a 4.2" barrel so we could buy them. Great little campanion piece to my GP-100 in the same barrel length.

Take Care

Here's hoping it's on the GP frame too! Would make a great training companion piece to my 8 shot S&W 627

I have a 6" S&W 617 but I would buy a .22 SP101 as a "plinker". My 617 is set up for match shooting and so is virtually useless as a DA shooter since I have a trigger rebound spring so light that a gnat could keep it from returning.

The SP101 .22 would be more of a "trainer" , since the accuracy wouldn't be as precise as something like a 617. It would have far more utility as a "kit gun" loaded with hot Stingers or Maxi-Mags....you could do far worse for a "gun shy" lady than an 8-shot .22 LR revolver as a house gun. A hit with a ultra velocity .22 LR is better than misses with a .45 or .38 she can't control.

I hope they offer a .22 WMR/LR "convertible", now THAT would be a winner if we had the ability to switch over to .22 Mags. If nothing else offer a dedicated .22 WMR SP101.

The convertible would be nice. As the cylinders can be removed easier than the GP series from the crane it would not be that difficult to change albeit more work than a S&W. Being it would be a small frame gun I doubt one could rival the trigger pull of a medium frame gun such as a Smith 17 or 18 or a GP. I would guess the single action would be about 2.75 lbs tuned and double about 9.5. The 18 I have with a trigger job has an 8 lb double action and 2.5 or so single (could be lighter if used a lighter than 13 lb trigger return spring).
