The 6" stainless GP100 half lug is a like new, 1987 year model with a #170 serial number prefix. It appears to have only been lightly test fired. The 2-3/4" stainless Security-Six looks immaculate also. I had been looking for many moons to find these nice revolvers-and the GP100 was the hardest to find!:
I can relate with what you are saying. I remember whenever there were plenty of Security-Sixes in gun shops and half lug 6" GP100's too! So, foolishly, I fell into the trap of thinking that I could buy these revolvers anytime-no hurry! Well, I was wrong-and this is the reason I've had to wait so long before finding my new 6" half lug GP and the snubby Security-Six posted above! Don't worry Stan-as I'm sure that if you keep looking in your local gun shops, your day is gonna come for a set of Ruger's just like these!
I have a set of compact grips ready to add to a 6" half lug when I find it, I had the compact Letts on my blue 6" half lug GP and I like how those feel on this gun. But my one half lug 6" GP ended up getting a red dot on it and needs bigger grips.....now I need a SS half lug to keep original.
I would also "settle" for a 2 3/4" Speed or Service Six, I'm pretty flexible on that
Great looking duo. I like the older rubber grips with wood insert better than current production grips. They give a little more 'class' to an already sexy handgun.
Thanks guys-and I still have those two revolvers! The grips on the GP100 came on this gun as it was originally shipped from Ruger and I was impressed with the wood graining on the inserts!
I had seen your post and didn't even look at the date. I probably wouldn't have commented if i knew it was almost 4yrs old, but hey, If I had seen it in 2010 I would have had the same thoughts. (you know...jealousy, envy, lust, the same feelings you get when you see a guy sporting around with a hot duo of sisters at his disposal)
My meat-hooks take better to a large grip. I just picked up a new GP and it came with the finger grooved type rubber grips that are just right depth-wise, but they would be nicer if they had a bit more width.
There are some cool inserts made to fit in the older style rubber grips on ebay such as stag, black buffalo horn, different laminates, and any kind of wood you can think of. With winter coming ill probably make a new set of walnut to custom fit myself.
Very nice Rugers there I would love to find a Security Six 2-3/4 barreled gun or a S&W 19/66 with the 2-1/2 inch gun. There is a S&W 66 2.5 inch barrel gun for sale right now and the seller is asking $850.00 is that average or too low or too high the gun looks mint very very low round count it is basically a safe queen. Any comments on the gun I just mentioned would be much appreciated thanks in advance! ptblank you have one of the most beautiful handgun collections I have ever seen thanks for sharing!!
The S&W Model 66 with the 2.5" barrel in mint condition with box and papers can sell for $850 but without these items would sell for $700-$750. You can always make an offer to see how it goes? A lot depends on where you are located because prices will tend to vary somewhat. Thanks for the compliment!
PT- When I was in college, I worked in a gun store for extra cash. We had a 1/2 SS GP that I used to put in and out of the case every day. I commented to the owner about it one day and he said I could buy it for a hundred bucks. I scoffed at the idea, because I thought revolvers were for old guys. How I kick my self for that one. I did end up with a great Blued 1/2 that has become a good friend on my desert trips, but I think you have just renewed my search for a SS companion for him.
ptblank wow you know your revolver values given what you have said the seller is asking $100-$150 over value because this revolver just is gun alone no box or paper's! But this gun does appear to be premium safe queen. But currently too much $$ for my budget and I would love to have a nice Security Six 2-3/4 inch revolver either blued or stainless.
Well a Security-Six is a much more durable revolver than a S&W Model 66.
