Talk me out of a GP100 Wiley Clapp

Seriously. I already have a 4" GP100, 4" Security Six, 4-5/8" Blackhawk 45 Convertible, an LCR 38 w/Crimson Trace, and I recently bought a 4" GP100 for my eldest son who is serving on the USS Roosevelt.

I probably wouldn't have even considered it, but one showed up on the local used market. One turn-off is it doesn't have the factory box, but it does have the Ruger rug.

I generally conceal carry the LCR, a P938, an Ultra Compact 1911, or a CZ75 Compact. Not really sure where the Wiley Clapp would fit in the rotation. However, I really like how it has the melted exterior for smoother carry. I also think I'd like the sights, as I already have a green fiber sight on my GP100 4".

Anyway, I'm just trying to resist and was hoping you good folks could cure me of my wheel gun sickness.

I would have to liken your plea to that of an alcoholic going to a bar looking for help in stopping drinking.

How did it feel when you held it, I bet it was perfect for your hands and you could hear a little voice calling out to you. Remember you have a 4" and a 3" would help round out your collection and actually be a perfect night stand gun. You really have to wonder how you made it this long without one.

There was that helpful?

Good luck w/ that. I succumbed to the GP 100 WC; in my case the blued version with the gold bead sight.

It is easily the most comfortable revolver I own- and I have a few. I use mine in local IDPA matches and am doing fairly well with it. Last match was tied for third most accurate, dropping only 3 points the entire match.

Do you need it? Probably not. Do you want it? Probably.

The question to ask is, will it make you happy? Only you can answer that

Let us know what you decide.

All I can say if you have all the Ruger's you are talking about, well I have to pick & choose the Rugers I have being on a fixed income. I bought a Ruger GP100 WCII mine is the Hawkeye Blued Model & I love it. The Novak Sights really make this gun stand out.

Let me try to help.

No box or papers.
The rug you mention did not come with the gun.
It's not rare, scarce or collectible.
The Novak sights are fixed so you can't adjust the rear for elevation if needed.
The Hawkeye matte finish shows the turn ring prominently and if you keep the carbon deposits scrubbed off the end of the cylinder you'll start to polish the finish out.
The action is just another stock GP100, no better or worse than any other.
It's a big chunky gun for concealed carry and only has 6 rounds so you may never carry it given your other options.
The melted edges can be easily duplicated on any GP100 with a little time, files and sandpaper.
The front sight light pipe is only bright in good light. Low light or a poorly lit indoor range may yield poor visibility. And since the front sight is in a dovetail you don't have the easy swap option like a standard GP100.
For a gun that is supposed to be enhanced for carry it still has a full size grip and not a compact grip. So one of the premium features - the unique grip - may get swapped out for a more compact alternative.
All the standard caveats still apply - is the barrel properly indexed? Is there a gap where the front of the trigger group meets the frame? Timing, lockup, end shake, B/C gap, etc. all OK?

That's all I can come up with at the moment. I hope that was helpful. If not you're like the rest of us and have passed the point of no return and you may as well just go buy it before somebody else does.

Guess you're not going to get any help here.
It took a nano second from see to buy for me. Sorry about your condition. No treatment I know of beside a lobotomy.

No worries. In the midst of trying to schedule a meet-up, someone beat me to the deal. The seller was in need of quick money, and I had already-planned obligations.
