Older model SP-101 rear sight

I've got an older model SP-101 .357 that only has the "notch" rear sight. Would it be possible to have the backstrap machined to take the Ruger (or any) adjustable rear sight? If it could be done is there someone doing this? Thanks!

To take a Ruger adjustable sight not only would the topstrap need to be milled but it would need to have some "ears" built up on the top strap to take the pivot pin for the sight. This could be done via welding. Alpha Precision used to do this but is out of business. I am sure others can do this. Because of this most conversions use a S&W adjustable sight. I imagine one could use a Bowen sight for a S&W also. This requires only the milling and drilling and tapping of a couple of holes in the top strap. At one time there was a picture of a SP 2.25" bbl. with a S&W sight on one of the Ruger boards. Only thing I recall was the poster was from Dallas, OR.

You will need a taller front sight to go with the rear, also. As I recall Bowen also makes or did make a fixed rear sight that could be milled into the top strap.

I wanted the same thing. My solution, sell the SP101 and buy the SP101 Wiley Clapp. The SP101 can probably be sold pretty quick, and the WC model can be had for probably $100-$150 more than the old model can be sold for, and it has a nice brass bead front. https://grabagun.com/ruger-sp101-wil...7mag-2-25.html

The cost of the Gemini conversions I think it's a better solution to pickup a SP101 WC.
