The Alaska Outdoors forum has them used for sale off an on. I got mine at Carters Country in Houston on my way back up here. Here is one that just popped up.

About 3-4 weeks ago, I noticed my local dealer/range had an Alaskan .454 in their case. It was a trade-in...shocker, huh! They had it priced at $650. I considered it for a minute until it dawned on me there are no grizzlies in Kansas.

Here's their link should you decide to contact them: http://www.thebullethole.com

They're in Overland Park, KS (KC)

I have seen a few "lightly used" .454 Alaskans, which include a box of rounds with 6 missing!

A few people bite off more gun than they can chew with these, and gun shows always have a few of them.

It's one of those guns all the early 20's guys think looks awesome, but then find out it's not too awesome to shoot

Give Ruger a call.

As I understand it, Ruger makes it guns (or at least some of them) in annual batches; they make the alotted amount of "Alaskans" then that's it for the year.

Perhaps they could tell you when the next batch is due, if that's the case?

Good luck ...

I called ruger a couple days ago and they said they've shipped them and that distributors have them, so I guess I'll see. I might have to check out a gun show and see what I can find.

I bought mine used... but I have to say that it is one of my favorite guns. Its now my go-to gun for carry in the mountains. I love shooting the thing with full-power loads! :-) Talk about something that can make you feel alive!

I'm a little guy -- just under 6'0" and about 140. I had some reloads that I was wanting to burn up and I ended up shooting 85 full power 300gr's in one sitting. Trust me, you REALLY gotta want to shoot a gun to shoot 85 of those suckers at once. Both hands hurt for days. LOL

Wow, I'm no slouch but 85 .454's in one sitting?

I had a hard time getting through 100 Black Hills .44 Mags in my SRH!

Having done it once, I can say without any question that I have absolutely no desire to ever try it again! LOL About 6 or 12 per trip to the range is plenty of those little bombs for me now... the rest of the time I'm perfectly happy with hot .45 Colt loads!

The 85 rounds was over about two hours, interspersed with shooting some other guns... and it was switching back and forth between right and left hands along with one and two handed (I think one-handed actually hurts less - maybe because there isnt as much resistance against the recoil).

You da man nebmike!!!

Like Stan, a box of 50 heavy .44 loads in enough for me for one day. Beyond that it becomes work, and who needs that? LOL

I like mine. Mine has mostly not seen much action because I ordered it, promptly had a pretty severe off hand injury & then the gun arrived . . . . so it has mostly seen cowboy .45's. I got my left hand back, but just haven't gotten out as much as I'd like since. It is an absolute joy to shoot with cowboy .45's though & hotter JHP's in .45 are just fine for social use in the middle of the city.

It's a great revolver with a wide selection of loads from the meek and mild to thunder cannon. It is tremendous fun with 45LC cowboy action ammo. My self defense ammo is Corbon, which IMHO makes great defense and hunting rounds.

^^Yeah. I just can't find them. Already lost deals on three. It's frustrating. I've been dwindling down my collection and need a fun gun.
