I've owned a lot of GP100s - more than I care to admit. I still have my first one, a 6" stainless that's a family favorite. And I've owned and sold 4", 5", 3", stainless, blue, both WC models, 38's and 357s and am down to just an odd assortment of 3" adjustable sight FrankenRugers so I'm a fan of the 3". The 6" is a better target gun but the 3" is fun, compact (relatively speaking) and does just about everything well enough. Congrats on yours - you'll probably like that a lot.

will certainly post photos when the grips come in. if i get ambitious maybe a before and after.

tjironhorse, a beautiful revolver and the elk inserts push that gun over the top. i don't know why, but i feel i need for bonded ivory inserts for mine. saw them when i was nosing around for compact grips. thought it would be a little much at first, i didn't want to pimp it out but when i saw the picture of them on....it works. we'll see, lol.

I love my 3" GP100. Seems to be a handgun I can't miss with. Even the 10" round steel plate my club has at 80yds isn't safe. The fixed sights are right on.

Congrats on the great purchase. I got mine with the 6" barrel and love the Hogue grips (probably because I have ape-sized hands). Let us view this baby with her new grips and how well you like the shorter barrel. You didn't say if it was "blued" or SS.

Here's a 3" GP with compact grips along side a 3" SP. Both take the same size inserts. Hope you enjoy your new shooter. You just can't beat a GP.

Yea you have that one right......got yah beat though. While out shooting with my son in law this last October. We were shooting at a 200 yard out door range. There was at the very end of the 200 yard range a steel target that was a coyote. I took 6 rounds of my .357 158 jhp reloads I held the sights on my GP100 Wiley Clapp high on the coyote fired 2 shots I was told I was hitting 10-12 feet high. So I took the front brass bead Novak sight and put it right on top of the coyote head. I fired two more shots and heard a gong on each shot. I was shooting standing with a two handed hold. I kinda made my son in law a tad mad at me!!! Yes these 3 inch Ruger GP100's really are very accurate!!!

Is that Millett front sight the same height as the original? I'm tempted.
