Redhawk 45lc

I hadn't seen a used Redhawk for several years until a few days ago when I ran across a 44 and bought it. Two days later my regular dealer got a 7 1/2" 44 that had had a trigger job and lighter springs installed. I didn't really need another 44 but I went back the next day to buy it and it had sold (stayed in the counter less than a full day). But......he had another used Redhawk with gray plastic box and all the docs! It's a 45 Colt with a 5 1/2" bbl. and very nice except that it's fired some cowboy ammo and the cyl. face is black. I had it put back til today just in case I decide I have to have another Redhawk. The only marking on the bbl. is the cal. The left side of the bbl. is unmarked. It looks like factory work but I don't know if Ruger ever made a handgun without the markings. I have an old Super Blackhawk without the manual reference (pre marking?). I'd like to hear your experiences with the 45 Colt Redhawk. TIA

targetshootr is an unknown quantity at this point
I'm no expert but the missing letters sounds like custom work. Other work was possibly done too. i'd try to contact the previous owner for more info.

I went back and bought the Redhawk today. I took my calipers along and measured the cylinder throats just to be sure they weren't oversized like some I've read about. All 6 cyl. measured .452. Maybe a little tight for some cast bullets. It's a 2003 model with the fired cartridge and all the goodies Ruger gives out.........that is to say not a lot. I've been having some heart problems and haven't had the energy to go to the range but I hope to get out tomorrow or at the latest next week. If I ever learn how to post photos I'll show off my little Ruger family. I have 13 N frame Smiths but y'all don't want any pictures of them

Yes Ruger did make a 5 1/2" .45 Colt Redhawk. They were made for two or three years. I have one and my uncle has one as well both were bought at the same dealer at the same time. The dealer had to call Ruger to get them so maybe they weren't high volume production.
