Question Value of a Ruger Security Six, Blued

Hi guys well I saw in the local buy n sell section of the newspaper a older vintage Ruger Security Six, blued with a 6 inch barrel comes with the smaller original Ruger wood grips and also a nice Pachmayer Presentation Grips. Well this gun is listed as a "Safe Queen" it looks very nice in the pics. They are asking $350.00 is this a good buy or just average? Personally I would prefer a Security Six Stainless with a 4 inch barrel over this gun but those are hard to find as well. I just thought I would ask to see what this gun might be worth, I am not really in the market for one like this but I am curious if this price seem like a good deal or not. Thanks in advance!!

I have a 4 inch Security Six that I picked up at a local gun shop for $300. My avatar is the Security Six I bought. If the gun your reading about is as they owner describes, $350 is a good deal. Hope this helps ya.

Definitely, most of the SS's I've ran across have been blued, would be nice to get ahold of a stainless one!

If it comes with both cylinders it is a good deal, provided of course that it is fully functional and no rust, etc.

Both cylinders? I think that you might be confusing a security six for a single six. The security six only comes with one cylinder.

Oh yeah

I would get it!

But I have been looking for a 6" Security for a while.

I just saw a rusted (yes rusted) stainless 6" Security Six go for $420 on Gunbroker.

It seems the 6" guns go for a bit more.

Sounds like a good price to me.

Buy it and shoot the heck out of it.

They are great guns.

Security Six

Well, this message answers most of my question. I looked at a Security Six blued, in very good condition (bluing about 95%) tight lockup and clean sights. Also has pachmyer grips with the Ruger emblem on them. Dealer is asking 349.00

Security Sixes are great guns. Mine is 4" barrel, an old police trade-in with the appropriate holster wear. It's just plain fun to shoot, and a great weight, too.

Ruger grips

I firmly believe the Pachmayr-type grips with the Ruger logos are in fact made by Sile for Ruger.

It seems the Security Six you're looking at is a very late one, or someone added those grips later. Most of the post-1986 Sixes I see have the rubber Ruger logo grips. After '86 most Sixes were not really "made" just assembled from remaining parts and I think Ruger gave up the wood grips in favor of cheaper and easier Sile contract grips.

I have a 1988 Speed Six with the rubber grips with the Ruger medallion and they are sure not real Pachmayrs and are identical to a set of Siles I got on a used S&W I bought, copies of the Gripper. Sile also made copies of the Presentation grip.

The Sile wood target grips look very, very much the same as the Ruger logo wood target grips and I always suspected Ruger just had Sile make them and add the medallion.

Here's a pic of my 1988 Speed with the rubber Ruger grips.

$350 is pretty good for a nice Security Six. Get it, it will make a nice companion for the 4 incher that you'll buy later.

Like previous posters, I'd have to say "buy it". Ruger stopped making Security Sixes a long time ago because they said that they lost money on every SS they made and sold. That tells me SSs cost more to build because of the quality of design and manufacture.

At that price and condition, I'd be buying SSs even I had to sell something else in the safe.
