The official word from the factory is - go ahead and dry fire to your heart's content.
Helps smooth out the action and I get a kick out of picking off certain individuals when they appear on my TV ... 8-)

I have had my .357 since 1994 , when I purchased it I would dry fire for hours. Like MadMike said it smoothed it out.

| Manual
The manual for the Six series, I believe even says dry firing is perfectly fine.
I still use spent brass to help "catch" the firing pin just because it's been beaten into my head for so many years that it is a total violation of all things sacred to ever dry fire a gun =)

Sp101 manual states " the revolver can be dry-fired without damage to the firing pin or internal components. page7b
I am sure most of you know but just in case you need a manual. I have all my manuals but its nice to have them on a computer screen. The Ruger manuals are among the best.

If you get Iowegans gun guide, you can take it all apart and polish it correctly. It is a great reference for your revolver.

According to Ruger's website FAQ:
Can I dry fire my Ruger revolver?
Yes. All Ruger revolvers can be dry fired without damage, and dry firing can be useful to familiarize the owner with the firearm. However, be sure any firearm is completely unloaded before dry firing!
We can all click away to our hearts' content!

I "second" the post on Iowegans' gun guide. It will be the best money you can spend to enhance your background on gun tuning, and maintenance in general for your Ruger revolvers. Iowegan also has some comments (from a gunsmith point of view) about dry firing that I think you should consider. I will let you read it for yourself, and I am pretty sure it will change your perspective.

Locally a 6 pack of A-Zoom aluminum .357/.38 caps are $18.95+tax.....seems like a big waste since the factory "Okays" dry firing.
I also like Stantheman86's idea of using spent cases.....I'll clean up a few left over aluminum Blazer cases and use those(maybe even press a bullet in, sometime to use them for reloading practice).

Great idea PaiN , I have practiced with the speedloaders for years with live ammo and I will paint the dummies on both ends so I don't have an
"accident".
