4"

Of all mine, I would say I like my 6" half lug (blue) the best for it's pure purpose, which is shooting! It points and feels much, much better to me than my full lug 6". It also looks way better, I feel the half lug GP's are the only ones that retain some of the lines of the old beloved Six series. The Sixes got by just fine for nearly 20 years without lugs, and were and are some serious duty and recreational guns. I don't see why Ruger then saw the need to stop the half lug GP and go with all full lugs!

I also love my 4" SS, it just feels like a serious piece of iron, and I would say the 4" is the best true "GP",(general purpose!) At handgun range of 25 yards or so, the 4" does everything the 6"ers can and they are very pointable and balanced.

My 6" full lug feels like it has an M203 or something mounted on it, way muzzle heavy for me and it's best purpose I have found is launching hot .357 heat missiles down range, and the 6" full lug is better for pure target shooting.
And for home defense I can't picture a better club than a full lug 6" if you run out of rounds!

As much as I prefer the half lugs, I can see myself at some point picking up a SS 6" full lug, just because I think it would be badass with coco bolo grips and maybe a rail with a red dot sight.

I do wish Ruger would make an 8 3/8" target model GP100, i.e. like Smith did with their 586 and 686 but I guess both bullseye shooting and silhouette shooting aren't as popular.

Stant,

As always, I like the quality of your response. Detailed and factual, yet not overwhelmingly technical

Have you ever considered being a gun writer in one of the well known gun magazines?????

I don't think they make the half lug ones anymore...only the full lug.

GP100 6" full lug. This gun has seen duties on the range, at home, (occasionally) concealed carry.

in my opinion a 4" barreled .357 magnum is just about the most versatile handgun you can get. I have a 4" full lug and I love that thing. I saw a half lug 6" for sale recently and it was a dang hansom gun though.

I'm with White Willie & gunguru, I like the 3". My reason is, I carry an SP101 and love it but I needed a 6-shooter to play in IDPA, so I looked for the closest thing.

Which among those offerings do you like????
I like all of then, but if I could only have one it would be a 6" in stainless.

I bought a 10" Thompson Contender in 357 mag ~ 30 years ago. I got used to to the long sight radius. One day, my nephew brought his 6" SS GP100 to the range. After that shooting day, I knew one day I would buy one of these revolvers. About a year later, I saved up and also bought the 6" in SS. It came with different grips made by Houge. I shot the gun so well the first day I at the range, you would think that I owned it for years. I like to target shoot @ 25 and 50 yards. This gun "just feels right" at those distances in my hands.

Wife bought me a GP-100 4 inch bbl two weeks ago for a graduation present -finished my MBA. I'm very happy with it but would love to find one with the 3 inch barrel. Suspect I would like it better than an SP-101, which I also considered before getting the GP.
