Replacement for SRH Toklat sights

I would like to replace the stock sights on my Toklat and can only find one choice:

Super Redhawk® Hi-Viz Front Sight-ShopRuger

I'm stunned there is no company that makes a tritium sight or large front sight. Meprolight, Trijicon, XS, TruGlo, Ameriglo, Heinie, Speedsights don't.

Does anyone know of another sights options for the Toklat.

Not much out there. There's the factory red ramp, the brass bead, and the fiber-optic from Ruger.

I did custom front sights for mine, had Amerigun do trijicon lamps in them.

I had assumed that they were the same as what adorns the regular Super Redhawk. Sorry about your situation.

The Toklat has the long ramp, three-screw front sight. That's the one that only has one option which stuns me.

Glocks have a number of options for new sights but I know of many people who will apply neon paint to their existing sights to be able to better see the sight. I may just try that approach although the red chip in the stock front sight is plastic and I don't know how well the paint will adhere to plastic.

One option would be to have a gunsmith make a flourescent front sight insert to replace the red one. Not cheap but a gunsmith could also fabricate a gold bead front sight. 10 Ring Precision, Magnaport and Cylinder & Slide among others do these.

Wiiawiwb is not correct here - the Toklat is not the only one. All of the new Super Redhawks have the 3 screw, fixed front sight - the SRH's no longer have the detent quick change blades:

Ruger offers a factory brass bead option:

And a fiber-optic option:

One thing I'll point out - Both of my Toklats came with a V-notch post rear sight and the brass bead front sight in the box, so I have the standard square cut notch rear and red ramp front and the V-notch post and brass bead sights for mine. The standard SRH's do not come with these optional sights included.

If you're interested in seeing what I have going for my tritium front sights for the SRH 3 screw set up, send me a PM.

The Toklat also came with the gold bead which my eyes simply can not see very well. The bead is microscopic to my eyes. By comparison, I do have an orange front sight and green read sights from Speedsights on my Glock 17 and my eyes pick up the front sight instantly.

The front sight from RugerParts.com is the same 3-screw base but has a HiViz dial inserted into it. Ruger told me that dial can not be removed to swap out for other HiViz dials such as a red one.

It is critical for me to be able to acquire a fast acquisition of the front sight. I'm not finding a workable option. I'd keep the stock sight if I could find a way to mount a CT green laser on the Toklat. No go so far.

I think with the 7 1/2" SRH you can mount a picatinny rail on top using the Jack Weigand rail mount:

Weigand Scope Mounts WEIG-A-TINNY® Weaver Picatinny Style

I don't think that will work for the Toklat but would have to call them to confirm one way or the other.

The Weigand mount in the video works with the Toklat - with the exception that you have to get the 454 version, not the 44mag version - as he describes in the video. I own one, it works.

Take a look at the JPoint sight base also - then you can mount a red dot site in place of the rear sight. That might work out for you with your vision issues.

The only laser that I'm aware of for the Super Redhawks is the RED Crimson Trace laser grip. I have one on an Alaskan, it works well, and accepts all Lett style grip insert panels.

There's plenty of ceiling (or rather floor) in an SRH barrel to mount a pic rail to the bottom of a Toklat barrel, that would allow you to mount a pic style green laser. Just have a smith D&T the belly of the barrel. Won't be pretty, won't be smoothe, but then you'd have your choice of sights up top plus a laser under the belly.

I have an Alaskan set up with a meprolight tritium rear sight and a custom tritium front blade and a CT laser grip, it's a very diverse defensive handgun. Similarly, I have a Toklat with a meprolight tritium rear and a custom tritium front, then another Toklat with a JPoint mount with a Burris FastFire III in the rear sight position and a blind front sight base up front. Then I have a weigand mount with a Leupold VX3 on a 7.5" SRH also. It's a pretty versatile revolver.

I just ordered the green Hi-Viz front sight from RugerParts. It's the cheapest and easiest solution. We'll see if it works. If it does, then I will also order the rear tritium adjustable sight from Meprolight.

If not, I'll return it then look at the rail and red dot approach.

Thanks for all the excellent thoughts and advice.

Here are a few pictures of the newly-installed front HiViz sight. I think it is a marked improvement over the red plastic but wish they used a larger vial the size of those in TruGlo.

Hi,
I am going to buy a Toklat. I am getting to the age where I can't see anything real well, but those red plastic inserts are useless to me. I was thinking something along the lines of XS or Meprolight.

Can you tell me how to do the Meprolights on the Toklat and which ones to get?

How does shooting a 454 with the stock Hogue grips compare to the CT Laser grip?

There is no XS option for the Toklat, but a rear XS GP100 or any other Ruger revolver adjustable rear sight from XS will fit. HOWEVER, it's not a tritium sight, just a V-notch, so you're not gaining anything by adding the XS rear sight.

The Meprolight rear sight is available on Amazon, Midway, etc. ONLY the rear sight will work with the Toklat. Again, a meprolight rear sight branded Super Blackhawk or GP100 would work too - they're all the same part. The Front sight that comes with the GP100 set does NOT work with the toklat, and cannot be made to work (my first custom run was to install the plunger style sight into a highly modified toklat rear sight base - but it's far too short).

For the front sight, things get tricky. You have to have it custom produced. To accomplish this, I bought a Ruger factory sight, cut off the factory blade, custom cut a new blade, mortise & tenoned it together, silver soldered it in place, drilled the blade for tritium lamps, blued/blacked the whole assy, then sent it to Amerigun to have the lamps installed. This isn't fast, cheap, or easy, but it's obviously not insurmountable either - after all, I accomplished it. Amerigun installs Trijicon lamps (same lamp used in the XS sights). The end result is basically a Meprolight rear with custom trijicon front sight, 3-dot tritium set.

I may be able to help you out with this if you're so interested. Send me a PM.
