Problem with my SP101 in 327 Federal?

Primary Issue
The major issue I am having with the handgun, and the primary reason that I want to send the gun in to be looked at, is the case buldge on the lower third of the case....Shooting Factory Federal 110gr loads, I have very sticky extraction (even though the inside of the chambers are smoother than I have seen on any other SP101)...The case buldge on the lower third of the case is far more extreme than I have seen it from any other ammunition I have shot....After I finally extract the cases, I am not able to push the cases back into the chambers they just came out of....If I try to exert any sort of force, the chamber actually starts to cut into the brass....This seems to happen with three out of the 5 cylinders....

Something just does not seem right about that.....Well, that is my thought anyways....I just can not believe that Ruger wants me to pay to send the handgun in with these issues....Maybe I am wrong though and It is all good....It is also a little bit of a logistic issue for me to pay to send the Revolver in to be repaired....The closest UPS hub is 50 Miles away....The closest FedEx Hub is 80 Miles away....We have no gun dealers within about the same range....

What is everyone elses take on this?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Secondary Issue......
I have three SP101's....One with a 2" barrel in 357, one with a 4" barrel in 22LR, and one with a 3" barrel in 327....

The 357 shoot dead on, and does not have adjustable sights....

The 22LR shoots a tiny bit to the left (Maybe 2" at 15 yards)....a slight adjustment in the rear sight corrects that....

The 327 shoots 4-6" to the left at 15 yards....I have to adjust the rear sight so far right that the blade actually sits off of the side of the frame....

I might think that it was just my shooting that caused the 327 to shoot left....But I have a fair bit of practice shooting handguns....and a fair bit of experiance shooting SP101 framed guns....I also let another person shoot my SP101 327 (that is far better than I am with handguns, and he had the same issue). I was shot off of sand bags to make sure that it was not me....I have a Ransom Rest, but I saw no need to use it because of just how far to the left it was shooting....

I had a spare rear sight that I have filed down so that the rear sight does not stick off to the side of the frame....I also filed down the lower section of the blade (that holds it onto the revolver), so that the adjustment screw hardly sticks out from the side of the frame....This has solved this issue for the most part....

My 327 has been almost perfect sorry to hear you are having trouble, The only thing I can think of is the barrel not being on correctly, With the gun unloaded look down the top of the barrel and see if it is square with the farme. My rear sight is 2 clicks left of center to shoot poi.

Y-NOT,

The front sight is cocked off a bit to the right....The same as with my SP101 22LR, but much more so....

I have rangled around the issue a bit by filing down an extra rear sight I had quiet a bit...I just wish I knew if the bulge at the lower third of the case was a safety issue....I have never seen anything like that on any of the other cases from any of my other handguns (Even the highest power 357 loads do not do that).

Thanks,

Charlie

My cases are all stright and will resize in my reloading press with no problem. I would think that there is a problem in the cylinder. It sound like a trip back to Ruger. Do you have to ship it to the U.S.A. or is there a Ruger branch in Germany?

Any idea what the chamber diameter is supposed to be on the SP101 327?

I have a caliper, and I can measure the inside diameter....Just need to know what the acceptable tolerances are....

Could oversized chambers be causing the issue I am having?

Charlie

P.S.

My Father wants to shoot another cylinder full of ammunition through the gun with the cases and chambers labeled....I told him that I do not know if that would be safe, based on the bulging cases I have seen come from the gun so far....Is it safe to shoot?

Y-NOT,

Thanks for the info....I am starting to think I have oversized chambers....

I am stationed in Germany, but the Handgun is in the states with my Father....

I just saw this on the other Ruger forum. According to this poster Ruger said that "the revolver is dangerous". Don't know how many people are having this problem, but you may want to check it out.

Good luck and be careful.

I caught this on the AR15 forum. Take it FWIW.

"Called Ruger today to find a place to pick up the new SP101 in 327 Federal. The lady said they are not currently available, as they are re-designing the cylinder."

I picked up a SP101 in .327 yesterday. I shot it today and I can't recall any glaring case bulges, but I had a very hard time getting the spent cases out of the cylinder. Matter of fact, I had to pry some of them out. I did shoot some 32 S&W long ammo in it as well. It was cheap stuff, but it extracted just fine. I mixed up the ammo. I did fire 12 rounds of the 32 S&W long ammo before I fired any .327 ammo.

Should I be worried? Should I contact Ruger? This thread has made me a little nervous

Try putting your 327 casses back in the chambers and see if they all fit in all the different cylinders If they do you got a good one if not I would call Ruger and tell them. I have sent my 327 back for this problem.

After all the bad reports on the 327, double thinking keeping mine, may have to trade it in.

Angry GP-100 327 Fed Mag Sticky Extraction

Ruger is still having sticky extraction problems. I bought a new GP-100 in March. I wanted to test the recoil of the gun using 32 S&W Long, 32 H&R Magnum, and the 327 100 grain American Eagle. I had no trouble extracting the S&W longs and the 32 H&R cartridges after firing them. I did have slight difficulty extracting the 327's but they did extract. Then I took a handgun course. After firing about 100 rounds of 32 S&W longs, I fired seven 32 H&R's all without extraction problems. After shooting seven 327's, the extractor pulled the cartridges out, maybe, a quarter of an inch and would go no further. The range master had to tap them out for me. I was using 100grain American Eagles. Later I tried Speer Gold Dot 100 grain and had the same problem. I sent my gun off to Ruger. They got it on April 12th. So now I'm in a wait-and-see mode.

maybe shooting the shorter cased rounds is fouling the chambers a bit.the 32 h&r isnt high enough preasured to stick but the 327 is.

UPDATE: I got my 327 Fed Mag GP-100 back from Ruger on on April 18th. I had sent it to them because of sticky extraction of spent 327 cartridges. Ruger said they replaced the cylinder. I took it to the range on the 23rd and I shot 50 rounds of 100 gr American Eagle and almost 40 rounds of Speer Gold Dot. I had no trouble extracting the spent cartridges. I think Ruger fixed my gun.
