GP100 Canted Barrel Update

I posted several weeks ago about the canted barrel on my 3" GP100. There was nearly a unanimous consensus that I should send it to Ruger for correction.

Ruger sent UPS to my house a week ago this past Monday and I received it back this morning (Wednesday), less than a full 9-day turn around.

Here are before & after pictures. Looks pretty good to me.

No scratches on the metal or frame from being in the "vise". Only thing I noticed was a small shiny line (about 0.3" long) near the angle edge where the left side of the frame rolls into the cylinder opening. I assume that a couple passes with a Scotch-Brite maroon pad would make that disappear.

They sent a test target back with the gun. Shows a 1" group (6 shots) about 1/2" left of center from 7 yards (158 gr American Eagle).

Love a story that has a happy ending. Ruger CS is great and one of the reasons I keep buying Rugers both new and old. You can buy with confidence knowing the company backs their products.

Looks good, and "yes" a maroon scotch-brite should work just fine.

I had to return my GP to Ruger shortly after purchase, and I was very pleased with their CS and the work they did. They're a top notch Company and stand behind their products. Really a pleasure to deal with.

Nice job of fixing your problem. Ruger CS has always been top-notch.

More than I can say for my experience with S&W and SIG.

+1 on this. Used Ruger a couple of times. Absolutely top notch. Doing any dealings with the company in Springfield is like being in the twilight zone.

Where does the gun shoot for you? Ruger told me they don't care where the bullet impacts as long as a gun groups. I'm not real happy with their service.

Glad all is well. I've only used Ruger CS once to get parts for my MKII. They were easy to work with and quick turn around from request to delivery.

I will try to get to the range next week and put some rounds through it and report back.

They do have excellent customer service, although I am a little frustrated this time that they sent the gun back with a shiny, new abrasion line on it, especially since I included a letter with the gun asking them to do a critical inspection of the gun for dings after they were finished working on it.

I bought some grey & maroon 3M ScotchBrite pads last week with hopes of rubbing it out but I am afraid that I might just make it worse than it already looks. I practiced on some stainless steel with both pads, and, while they produce a finish that is very close to Ruger's, it is had to tell if it is an exact match unless you actually rub them on the gun itself.

I can live with the new abrasion mark more than I could with the canted barrel. I think that anytime you send a gun back to the factory , you run a risk of getting it back with new finish blemishes, and, that probably applies to all gun manufacturers, not just Ruger. Of the 3 revolvers that I have sent back to Ruger in the past year, 2 have come back with new dings. I am sure they would probably pay to ship it back to remove the new abrasion mark, but I am not going to ask them to do that for something this minor. Ruger is probably #1 in going to whatever lengths required to please their customers. Based on my past experience with Berreta & Sig, Ruger is leaps & bounds better than them. Have had no experience with S&W.

For those that are interested, here is a picture of the ding they put on the frame while the barrel was being fixed.

I'm glad they got that barrel straightened up for you. They must have jumped right on it there sure was a short turn around time.
