| My Ruger Charger project..
Like so many others the Charger called my name from the first time I saw it.. It took a long time before my local shop was able to get one in for me.. The first thing I did after shooting 50 rnds thru it to see how it was going to do was to put a scope on it and then epoxy bed the action.
Then before shooting it again, I just didn't like the looks of the plain stock.. So I proceded to strip the finish off and some light sanding to get it ready. I used the powder rit dye in purple mixed with rubbing alcohol (2-3 applications were applied) with light sanding between coats. Then I applied 2 coats of clear acrylic, sanded between coats. I next added a heavy coat of opalesant pearl flake, followed with 8 coats additional of the acrylic, sanded between every 1-2 coats. After letting it cure good I buffed the finish out and applied wax to it. I did all of this and I haven't even owned it for 1 week yet. Here are the results:
I have swapped the original trigger group out for a spare I had on hand. The factory tripper pull on this gun was 6 1/2#. I tweaked it and got it down to a little over 5#. I swaped another trigger group I had from another 10/22 for a few minutes before I decided to do some experimenting. The one group has a VQ hammer and springs, while on this one was all factory with some tweeking to the hammer and springs. The trigger still didn't feel to good to me, so I pulled the VQ parts from the other gun and put in this one, the trigger went to 2#4oz average, slightly less than it was in the original gun. I then put the reworked parts for the Charger into the other rifle, The pull was 3# even average!! So it looks like I will keep them the way the are and not worry about ordering any more VQ parts for this one..I plan on getting another 10/22 rifle stock and reworking it for the Charger. And then of course an after market barrel, then??????

Unruely, Very nice!
I've done several similar projects with the dye and various top finishes as well.
A word of caution:
Allow the multiple coats of clear coat to cure or you'll be doing this again sooner than you may want.
Curing depending on the amount and thickness of the coats can take months!

thats pretty awesome...I think its a mean looking little gun, but I don't know what I would do with one? it looks like it might be a little awkward to shoot? but maybe its just me.

#9 | | | That makes one sexy lookin bench gun !! Have You shot it since mounting the scope at all ?? Just curious as to how well it groups.
I wish they would make one of those in .22 Hornet ! I'd own one in a hurry. It would make a great little "Whistle Pig" eliminator. |

Hey Unruely!
If you haven't shown that to Rico yet, you should. You know how Ga-Ga he is about purple!
