Charger Bipod

After doing some extensive research I ordered a Charger breakdown. I found the firearm quite nice and well built. I own 15 plus 10/22s and many other Ruger firearms and have had no issues that weren't quickly resolved by Ruger. All my research including the Ruger website stated that the take down model came with a, "Harris style bipod", while the standard Charger came with an adjustable bipod. My Charger take down finally came in and it has the standard bipod. I was very dissatisfied with this as you have to put a bunch of extra junk on the gun for it to attach to. I contacted Ruger and was told that the manufacturer of the bipod in question was no longer under contract. They said they received a letter from corporate stating such. My question to them is why I didn't receive the information also and why their pages weren't updated at the time. I own numerous Harris bipods and favor the style over this thing they sent me they are calling a bipod and was told too bad and there was nothing they could do for me. I paid good money for this product and wanted what I paid for. Has anyone else had this problem? Ruger doesn't seem to want to help and it may be time to spend my money with another company.

Ummm............I do not own a Charger yet. What are the differences in the Harris style bipod and the standard bipod?

Welcome. Mine came with a UTG bipod. It'll do the job. I was really after the gun itself, not so much the bipod. I'm sorry you're dissatisfied. Perhaps you could sell it and put it toward a Harris/Harris-styled bipod. Good luck and hang around.

Don't quote me on this but it appears that the initial run of Charger take downs came with the Harris type bi-pod and that sometime later in the run they changed to just one style of bi-pod for both of the Chargers which was the adjustable bi-pod. That would be cheaper to ship that way. My Charger, with a mid-January born date, came with the adjustable one. Both do the job and the adjustable is lighter.

I sold mine for $15 and bought a Harris type one off of flea-bay for $30. Just do the same if you're not happy with the one you got.

Just aggravated that Customer Service, though one of them admitted that they just got the memo (about changing the bipods) themselves, says there is nothing they can do about it...(false advertisement). I am really stuck in my habits when it comes to shooting. The Harris style has numerous notches on each leg allowing for a secure lock and different heights for each leg if shooting from an uneven surface. It also mounts directly to the swivel stud. The one they supplied makes you mount a picatinny rail and another sling stud with a big ugly nut. then mount the bipod to it. Just not practical. As with life nothing is free so I paid for the bipod too....not just the gun. I didn't get what I paid for in my opinion.

You're right...it is a crappy bipod. There isn't much that can be done on Ruger's side other than "so sorry" "tough luck" or throw you a discount code for something in the online shop.

If you only paid $30.00, you sure didn't get a Harris bipod. I have 4 of them, and they were all over $75.00 years ago. I haven't looked lately, but I'm sure they must be over $100.00 by now. I usually find that you certainly get what you pay for.

...Harris type one...

Does anyone have a pic of the bipod that is being shipped with the Chargers? I'm curious as I'm getting one too.

Got it. I didn't even notice that before. Yes, that is disappointing. The original Chargers came with a really nice bipod.

How does the Harris type one attach?

The thing I have noticed about the UTG is that you are not restricted to preset notches in the legs. Just lock the legs down and you can level the weapon out relatively quickly. I also noticed that every bolt/screw better be tight or it will rock.

Well I clearly paid zero attention to the whole bipod thing. What kind of bipod did I get? Did I get a decent one or should I be disappointed too?

I had a hard enough time just figuring out how the thing attaches to the swivel stud. The manual was no help at all. I paid a bit over $300 for this thing and got a cool little pistol, a 15 round mag, a bipod and a carrying case. For that kind of money I would hope they wouldn't go cheap on the bipod. I was thinking this was a nifty set up but now I'm not so sure.....

It appears you have the Harris. Here is the UTG.

Only difference I see are the springs.
