On the Charger TD, it looks to me that if you got an early one you got the 50th bolt and a Harris bi-pod. If you got the newer ones, you got a Ruger bolt and UTG bi-pod.

Thumbs down

called in to Ruger customer service Friday a week ago and after speaking with 4 people got a supervisor. She told me that there was a lot of disappointed customers in reference to the bipods. She also told me she would call me early on the following week..........its Thursday and I still haven't heard from her.

I bought 2 Charger takedowns which both had the 50th anniversary bolt and the harris style bipod. They were certainly advertised as having the harris style while the non-takedown version was advertised as having the UTG.

I have "real" Harris bipods that have the swivel/lockdown feature and so I was pleased to get the harris style bipod with the Chargers since that's what I'm used to. Of course I prefer the swivel/lockdown feature but the bipod Ruger shipped seems sturdy enough (although certainly not the quality of a Harris brand). I would have preferred to have the Charger not include a bipod at all and charge a little less for it but at least it's "something" that does seem somewhat usable. I'm only keeping the harris style bipods in case I ever sell the Chargers but I won't be using them (I like to have all of the original stuff that came with my guns).

Guess they used the harris style until they ran out?

I do agree that Ruger should have changed their advertising once the bipod changed but it seems that websites are about the last thing to ever get updated (and it's not just Ruger).

Quite a few times on descriptions of guns and listings of specifications I've seen disclaimers something to the affect that "specifications can change....". I don't know if Ruger listings have that disclaimer or not.

Sorry OP but I just don't feel your pain in this. It's not a very expensive firearm to begin with and the bipods that have been included are either cheap (Harris knock-off) or really cheap (UTG). You can keep hounding Ruger all you want but they reserve the right to change specifications without notice and owe you NOTHING. Good luck.

+1. Things change. The firearm could have been rejected and not paid for. You agreed to be disappointed when you put your money down. You can always litigate.

And be careful if purchasing a Charger online. Lot's of dealers use "stock" pictures so unless you ask, you may not get what's pictured. For example there is at least one dealer that currently shows a Charger takedown and the picture clearly shows a 50th Anniversary bolt and the harris type bipod. He DOES states that he takes pictures of one guns and uses it for all his ads. One of my friends is looking for a 50th Anniversary model so tonight I emailed the dealer and asked if the one for sale had the 50th Ann Bolt/Harris type bipod as pictured and he responded that ALL his Chargers with the 50th Anniversary bolt were SOLD.

So if someone doesn't ask, they may very well be in for a "surprise"........if it matters to them, if not then no big deal.

Is there a manufacturing name stamped in the Harris style bi pods.

I've looked my Harris style bipod over pretty well and I cannot find any mfg's mark on it. By the way, these Harris type bipods only lock out at full extension. If you want any other height, you can tighten the little knob on the each leg at any height you want.

How are you liking the Charger Neon Horse? I waited 10 days online with none in stock & went to my LGS & put one on order(Standard Model)

I am excited about it coming in

I am lame. I have only put a few rounds through with no optic (off the back porch). I am waiting for some money to free up to put red dot I want on it and I hope to hit a range this upcoming vacation time. As far as fondling and playing with it, I am quite fond of it. It is a neat little setup. It will take time, but I hope to suppress it. I am glad you found yourself one. Sorry, I wish I had better input.
