So, I have a 77/44 from the new run of them. It came with one magazine with no obvious part number on it. Nor did the schematic in the manual state a part number for the magazine. It does say "77/44 Deerfield" on the magazine under the hex nut thing.
shopruger.com list two, a "77/44" but that is listed under autoloader magazines and the picture has no markings on it. They list a 99/44 magazine under bolt-action magazines, and that picture has "77/44 Deerfield" marked under the rotor hex nut thing.
MidwayUSA has a similar listing, except they also list a 96/44 magazine. On Midway, only the 99/44 picture has "77/44 Deerfield" marked on the magazine.
I ended up buying a few of the 99/44 magazines from Midway, in part because that was all that was in stock at the time.
The magazines have worked fine. They look identical to my factory magazine except that they have the "Ruger" logo engraved on the bottom, and the factory magazine is totally smooth on the bottom. The other difference is that the rotor itself on the extra magazines is much softer than the factory magazine.
So far they have fed fine, but I don't know if that's something I can/should fix by disassembling the magazine? I assume you can preload the rotor spring when assembling the mag, though I have never disassembled a rotary magazine.
What's the difference between all these magazines? Which one is the right one for a 77/44?
