Man, that's rough. One of the LGSs around here was asking the same. I believe it is still sitting on the shelf. OTOH, I have only seen RARimfires at this LGS.

If you found one at $250, would it be much cheaper to bring one into CA?

FFL I used for my Buds order charges $40 so that's still $39 cheaper than the MSRP.
I'm going the patient route you took when deciding on your next .22LR rifle. I'm biding my time but hope to get one in the next 30 days.

I bought a gun from here and had it transferrd to LGS recently. My one experience with this
company was excellent! Quick shipment, and great price on the SR22 pistol I bought.

Good luck!

Careful- that next .22lr rifle mutated into a Mini-14

Sounds like a plan! I look forward to seeing what you get. There are so many great rifles out there...

Small Business Saturday took me to the Lgs today and I put a RAR 22LR in layaway. I am excited to give this bolt action beauty a go.
Do you think it could be as much fun as the 10/22 TD.

Awesome! I bet you'll like it! I'll have to get a TD and then we can compare notes!

They're $269 around here. Toying with going to look at one this coming weekend during a Ruger Days event (usually a joke but actually looking at new this time) I suppose I could wait until availability is better and simply order via my brother. Not like I'll be using it for a few months anyways.

That price sounds reasonable to me. I agree, mine won't be used much for a few months either... darn snow.

I don't mind paying a little more at a shop rather than at a box store. As I said, I can wait also and simply buy at cost. All depends on the day. Not much mark-up anyways so again, it would only be a few dollars saved.
As for the "darn snow", it's not so bad. Gives that snowmobile a chance to stretch.

I'm new to the forum, but just got my RAR last week. bought at Sportsman's Warehouse in Roseville, CA for $265 with a "no tax" sale.

this is my first bolt action rifle, everything else is either semi auto, pump and one Rossi Circuit Judge.

I like the Ruger quality and the guns shoots far more accurately than I can see with the open sites. I'll put a scope on so I can compete at 50 & 100 yds.

I'm considering the Nikon 3-9 x 40 Prostaff Rimfire. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a plan to me! I like Nikons. The Prostaff are nice. Have fun with your new RAR! Mine was my first bolt, also.

I'd love to have a Nikon .22 scope. Looks like a great price.

Welcome to the forum.
Hope you have some serious fun here online and with you RAR.
I just ordered a simple Simmons 3-9x30ish scope from Amazon here on Cyber Monday for $26.00ish. I have an earlir model of this scope on my 10/22 and can see and hit anything a 22LR can reach it seems. I am however a big fan of great optics, Leica cameras and binos, Leupold scope on my Ruger 77/44 bolt action, so go for the Nikon scope if it fits your budget.
