I'm curious about how the Ruger American handles (vents, redirects, whatever) escaping gas in the even of a case head rupture, pierced primer, or the like. IME, the M-77 MkII/Hawkeye do a magnificent job of redirecting any escaping gas _away_ from the shooter's face & head. Not all gun designs do as good a job. I'm curious about the American's design in this regard.

I have some excess gas I would like to divert from my face LOL sorry I had to.

Ok back to adult answer now. I really don't know. I have never felt any gas escape from my ar-15? or even in my m-16 while in the marines.

Since they are Gas operated guns, if you never felt ANY gas escape, does that mean you never fired the thing??

I can't tell you about the Hawkeye, but my .308 American has 2 ports on either side of the chamber just about the stock.
