I've been wanting .308 American for a while. The LGS had one in .243 so I went to check it out and liked it a lot. I put my name on a wish list and 3 days later they have one on the way. I'll do the paperwork sometime next week and as soon as my eye heals (detached retnia) I give a report. Hopefully, I won't be learning to shoot southpaw style at the same time.

Saw the Ruger American in 243, 270 and 308 at Academy Sports here yesterday for $379. I wonder if this is the going price for this gun? Compared prices with gunbroker yesterday afternoon, so this seems to be about the going price. Anyone else have pricing information or comments?

From my research, the good price point on the American is from $275-295. I was able to find quite a few listed across the U.S. for as low as $265, but not in .308. The American in .308 is not surprisingly, the hardest to find caliber as it is the highest in demand, and per usual, demand seems to drive the price a bit higher.

$300 seems about right.

Well, I got my .308 American at Cabela's, and paid their usual price of $380, and I'm not put out by it one bit. It is an excellent shooting and handling firearm, and I'm very pleased with it.
I've found that in mine Remington's Cor-Lokt in 150g prints the best groups. No I haven't tried all ammo available for this caliber, but the performance vs price makes it a fine choice of ammo for me. The 180g is no slouch either.

I traded straight up a Springfield XD I had sitting around not being used for my RAR .308. The LGS wanted $369 for the RAR. The cheapest I've seen them was $331 at a gun shop in NC.

I purchased one in 308 two weeks ago with a 3x9 scope for $339 at Scheels Sporting Goods, nice rifle shoots like a dream.

I purchased my new 308 Win. Ruger American Rifle (RAR) from my LGS yesterday for 359.00 dollars. Since the .308 is hard to find in my area, I jumped with no questions asked.
I think this will be one great camping/hunting rifle: light weight to carry all day long, accurate enough to put food on the table and has enough knockdown power for the game I hunt: white tail deer, wild hogs and black bear.
I love when my rifle kicks me. I know it's telling me how much it likes be fired and wants to go hunting.
