I just picked one up from a new gun shop here in town. They had a .308, 30-06 and .243 a couple weeks ago. When I picked mine up they had the .308 and 30-06. They told me they were having a hard time getting them as well.

I've recently handled one of these in 30-06. They are nicely balanced rifles with a very smooth and fast action. The bolt is just as smooth as a more expensive rifle I've handled, if not better. You can't go wrong for the features, a floated barrel and adjustable trigger too. No gripes over the stock or plastic magazine. Another homerun for Ruger.

i am green with envy that you guys over there have such easy access to great guns!!...i am been drooling over the ruger american ever since i read about it in a gun magazine a few months ago..

we will probably be able to get it over here but at like 3X to 5X the US$ price(with all required docs) due to our archaeic gun importation and ownership laws..

as an example my ruger 10/22 stock carbine cost me about $740 which only includes the license to own(limited to your residence) and permit to transport(from residence to range)..

the original license to own is good for 4 years..renewals are for 2 years for a fee of about $150..

permit to carry which is needed for hunting and non-range use cost another $200 for one year..

i am now limited to range use of my gun with my present documents...if i want to use it for hunting i will need to fork out another $200 which would now make my total $940 for a gun that is less than $300 stateside..

the only good thing about this is we are still allowed to own guns...

so count your blessings guys!!

I have an american in 308 with a 3x9 simmons scope. In the black hills where I live most shots are 100 yrds or less so it is a great gun for dear, elk, mountain lions and antalope. I really like this rifle very versitile.

We do especially with Obama in office..... Gun regulations have been shot down in the Supreme Court by a slim 5-4 margin, if he get's in again he will appoint 1 or 2 more Justices so it will instead be 5-4 in favor of gun control. Lord help us if that happens. Now, not to get into politics outside of the minefield so... Back on topic I go!

I have heard nothing but good things about the American rifle so far. It's reviews sound a lot like the reviws the Marlin X7 guns were getting, let's just hope they don't disappear like the above mentioned guns. I can't even find a Marlin X7 now. From what I'm seeing at my LGS's this gun, it is here to stay. Savage better watch out, Ruger just one-upped 'em at their own game.

The American is a nice rifle and the .308 is my favorite rifle round. Out of 5 long guns 3 of mine are .308. It saves a little not having too many calibers to buy for and the .308 is very versatile.
