.243 American

I didn't see a lot of info on the American yet. I got one about 3 weeks ago and am really happy with it.

I mounted a 4-12 Bushnell Elite on the Weaver bases that came with the rifle. Mine seems to like light to moderate loads a little better than max loads. I am getting 1/2" to 1" consistant 3 shot groups off a bench at 100 yards with 36.5 grs of varget with 85gr Sierra HPBT's (2850 Avg. FPS) If I get over 36.5 the groups open up a little bit, approx. 1" to 1 1/2". I also get the inch or better groups with 32 grs of IMR 3031 with 100gr Sierra Pro Hunters.

I can seat the Bullets .001 off the lands and they fit into the rotary clip. I like the bolt handles short throw. All in all, I think it makes a light, carry all day rifle, with deer hunting or better accuracy. I also got the free cheek pad. I don't know what I am going to do with it, but I have it

New here, and this is my first post.
I recently picked up the American in .308. I have a Centerpoint 4-16x40mm on it right now, and it's doing it's job well, but I will be upgrading that scope.
I'm not a reloader, so I'm putting Rem Core-Lokt through mine. Tried both 150g and 180g soft nose. The 180's hit me harder with recoil, but it's not bad for either round. Love that recoil pad!
The 150's do seem to be more accurate, but it's not a big difference at all. I'll likely stay with the 150's though. Both rounds are very accurate.
I gave my sporterized Mosin to my best friend after my first day shooting the American. His b-day was coming up, and he wanted a bolt gun.
It was my first Ruger, and 2 weeks later I added a 10/22 carbine to my collection as well.
I gotta say I'm really liking these guns, and my friends are quite jealous and covetous of my new American.
I'm a southpaw shooting long guns, but I'm used to right hand actions. I've heard Ruger will be making this in a left hand version in the hopefully near future, along with a wider range of calibers. I'd love to get one in .22-250.
