Restock of my M77 Hawkeye .280

I've always liked walnut and stainless so I finally contacted Ruger to buy a walnut stock for my stainless Hawkeye. Needless to say, I think they sent me a very nice stock and the stainless and wood goes very well together.

That is a very nicely figured piece of wood.

Sweet,

What's the finish on the stainless steel? Is it standard on the Hawkeye?

Yes, that is just the regular Hawkeye stainless finish they come with. It came with the black plastic stock but I've always liked the wood/stainless look so I decided to order a new stock from Ruger.

Thanks Scott, it looks like the finish on my 77/22 VBZ except it's matte gray. The stainless on my 77 MK II .243 is a polished SS and is way shiny.

Very nice though.

I like the looks of that a LOT better. Then again, I am a huge fan of wood and laminate for stocks.

Excellent move. That's a great looking Hawkeye! I have a blued Hawkeye in .257 Roberts. They're darn nice guns! The farthest I've wandered from walnut is to a few rifles with laminated stocks. Two of them are Model 77 MKII target rifles - one in 6mm PPC and another in .22-250 Remington.

I know they have some good features, but I'll never take to synthetic stocks.

How much did that cost you? I'm thinking about buying a replacement stock for my M77 and haven't really found many good options for under $300.
