Holographic or reflex sight on a RGS????

Folks love the EoTech and Aimpoint sights on their AR's etc...after being buried under an avalanche of Holographic/reflex sight/AR related information I found nary as much as whisper about putting one on a RGS?

Uhmmm...is doing so not in keeping with the Cooper concept? or are these types of accurate and fast sighting devices, somehow not compatable with the RGS??

Baffled???

I've seen people put EOtechs on the M1A SOCOM, why not a GSR? I'd prefer to have a little magnification myself... but it would work. The gun is real accurate for me with just the iron sights, if you feel better with the red dot then go for it. I think the reason you don't find many going for that setup is that the red dot is more popular with the semi auto crowd. If I'm going to take a deer with my GSR I'd rather have my Scout scope than a dot.

Agreed. Everyone and their sister had a AR-15 at the range today and even though it clearly says right on the wall "no rapid fire", these guys were popping off rapid fire shots. I'd much rather have the magnification.

Our range has separate areas that tend to draw the groups apart. I like that in many ways. When I'm on the long range bays doing a little BR quality time, I really hate to get peppered with brass from the gang in the next lane. And I can go with the gang blasting away too - I got toys There are times when letting it all hang out can be fun.

There are areas of the country where a lot of rapid fire causes constipation for neighbors and so there is always that problem. Our club has slowly been buying all the ground around our range - to the point that the closest house is a mile away from the range. A couple farms are close, but if we ever get the chance to buy those.......Visons of 1000 yards!!!

It must be some form of sacrelege to use holographic/reflex sight on a Scout rifle...what else could it be???

Jeff Cooper’s Scout Rifles

Scout Rifle Taxonomy

Got to wonder if Coopers choice of optics for the scout rifle would have been different if he could have had an Eotech/Aimpoint or ACOG...

Cooper didn't put a emphasis on optic magnification. A 2x EER mounted over the barrel was deemed appropriate. 2x is not a lot of magnification, so magnification doesn't appear to be what he was looking for.

Neither was pinpoint accuracy for that matter, if you look at what he was advocating accuracy wise it could easily be accomplished with a low magnification scope or a good peep sight...

He advocated a sighting system for the scout rifle, that was fast and could be use with both eyes open...hummmm???

Edit to add;
I tried the Eotech and while I didn't get bench rest pinpoint accuracy the trade of a little accuracy for incredibly fast sighting was fair...

With a 2x7 Redfield I was getting one inch groups at 100 yards...
With the EoTech I was getting one and a half inch groups at 100 yards...
With the iron peep sights I was getting two inch groups at 100 yards...
I was having a hard time getting a fine bead with the post...
Now all I have to do is dial in a load and I'll be set...
