I found the forum and signed up I am getting the Hawkeye Standard in 25-06, The questions I have are:
Is the barrels more accurate since they are hammer forged?
The specs say it is 8 1/4 lbs. If this is so then I would quess that the recoil will be mild or is the recoil on the 25-06 mild anyway.
The bolt (I am not familiar with) is the controled feed good,
is the trigger better? I pulled the trigger on other ruger rifles and they felt sloppy, But I still like American made[8D]
Is it possible to put a timney adj. trigger on this gun?
Thank for any info and I like the forum.[^]

can not comment on accuracy as i'm not an accuracy nut. if i can get 1.5" groups in a hunting rifle---i am happy.

The specs on weight is just that---speculation. Could go a wee bit heavier or lighter as it depends on the wood.

The 25-06 in my opinion is not a heavy kicker for a hunting rifle but if you are shooting prairie dogs all day long you will feel it. She will be noisy of course.

The hawkeye has the new ruger LC6 trigger which is in my opinion a big improvement over the old trigger as it breaks much cleaner. My ruger 77 MKII RSI has the LC6 trigger and i sure do like it and have left it as is. If you want it any lighter though, it will require gun-smithing. But for a hunting trigger it is good.

For a lot of varmint shooting, the best ruger trigger in my opinion is in the 77 MKII VT series---now that is a sweet trigger!

The timney will work in the hawkeye but i would give the LC6 trigger a chance.

I think another big advantage the rugers have is the scope mounting system. Free quality steel scope rings, no base to purchase or to get loose, stout as all get out---that is a big savings in itself in money and headaches.

I agree with deputy125, it is hard to beat the triggers in the KM77VT's. I have numerous KM77VT's and I love them all. By far the best triggers besides my one Remington 22-250. I have a Hawkeye on layaway in 30-06, so I haven't actuallt shot it yet :( As far as recoil goes, the 25-06 is pretty mild in my opinion. I probably wouldn't want to shoot it all day long, but I have put 40 rounds through my Thompson Center with no ill effects.
