M77 MKII Vs. M77 Hawkeye

I have read recently from another forum that the M77 MKII was a better rifle than the new hawkeye. They claimed that the reason that Ruger came out with the Hawkeye was to cheapen the M77 line. They also said that the MKII had much better bluing than the Hawkeye. Is this true? I only own one Ruger, a MKII and I absolutely love it. I don't own a Hawkeye so sadly I cannot compare the 2 rifles.

I hope too soon "expand" my M77 collection and wondered whether I should just stick with the MKII's or to buy one of the Hawkeye's?

I don't think that it has cheapened them, the prices have gone up quite a bit. The Hawkeye has a better trigger, as far as blueing the Hawkeye has more of a dull mat finish that I like better than a glossy blueing anyway but that is a personnel opinion. I have been shooting Rugers since the early 80's and I like the new hawkeye but the differences are minor.

Well, no experience with the Mark II.

My experience goes to the pre mark II rifles and my Hawkeye 300win.mag.

The Hawkeye is great.

This is a stainless w/synthic stock.. the stock shape is great, nice and trim and easy to hang on too.

The Barrel is great. Clean, sharp, bright - shoots great groups

Keep em coming!
