model 77 mark II 30-06 question

hi, i have a model 77 in 30-06, i am wanting to install a factory front sight, the rifle does not have any sights on it now. i found this ramp on midway, and was just wondering if anyone had any info on installing it. it looks simple, just slide it on and tighten a set screw. also the actual bead sight i have no info on installing, it looks like it will take a spring??? any info on would be very helpful.

Howdy:
Think it is more involved than tightening a set screw, which will easily loosen under recoil. I have a 77, pre MarkII, blued, that has front and rear sights ( as well as the receiver being factory drilled/tapped for scope ring bases; being pre- Mk II, no Ruger "dovetails" for Ruger rings on this one). Anyway- the front sight, which looks like the one you want to install, seems to be silver soldered in place.
In any event, installing sights on a bare barrel is a job requiring a specialized fixture and precision drilling- beyond what i can do at home, not being set up for such things ( the fixture alone costing hundreds of dollars ). It could be done using other methods for alignment, but they are less precise. "Sweating" or soldering sights on instead of using mechanical fasteners ( screws) is acceptable, of course, but something that takes some practice.
I put a 3x9 scope on mine. The factory sights don't do much for me further than 50 yards out (probably closer); just not as good as a well thought out peep sight system, and no comparison to a good scope, at least for me.
