Yeah that's cool if the friction paper works for you then that's all that matters. If nothing else try iron sights and work backwards from there.
I once had a rifle in .300 win mag that wouldn't shoot the inside wall of a barn with all the doors closed no matter what we tried.
I changed out the rings and re machined them to fit the scope spot on and put a few drops of Loctite on the rings and it proceeded to bust the internals of the scope after a few weeks of hunting. Anyway just by chance I managed to get a bridge mount and tried a different much cheaper scope I had sitting spare from a project. It would put 3 shots in a clover leaf pattern at 100 meters after that. I came to the conclusion that sometimes all the best parts don't live or work happily together and rifles can at times be a bit of a black art.
